film schedule

Film schedule

1.     Why is a film schedule important to have?
One of the reasons why it I was important to have a film schedule is because it helped me and my group to structure our time and make sure that we were all available and vacant to work a certain hours. It also helped us to make sure that my cast and crew were all vacant to work certain time. Just for augments sake they weren’t available to work the hours we needed them, then we were then able to arrange a time with them when they would be able to work, which also allowed us to make sure that I was free as well as well as the rest of the cast and crew. Another reason why it was important to have a film schedule was so that I was for me to be able to work out how long it would take to film all of the scenes which I needed to use for my music video, and try to work out how long it would take, for example, it worked out to take about a week to film, I would then know this from the planning which I would have done from the film schedule which I have created. Another reason why it was important for me to have a film schedule is because It helps me to see if someone is unable to work during certain hours then, then it gives me the time to rearrange a time with them, so that I then know that I have only 2 or 3 scenes left to do with certain cast members.

2.     Did you follow the schedule while filming, or did you make any changes?
I found that for most of the production I was able to stick with the film schedule. This helped to make sure that I had completed every scene, which I needed to shoot and help to me ensure that I didn’t forget to film any of the scenes. I only changes which I did makes was to some of the scenes right at the end this was where I was filming the club scenes, as I found that I need to film more than just two scenes, instead I had to shoot about four, but in terms of the actual shots and the angles which I chose to have them I kept them the same. The reason why I chose to film another two more scenes was because I found that I would be using these scenes more than once and although I didn’t mind repeating the same scenes more than once, I feared that it would start to look too repetitive, that it why I then decided to film another two shots which then make it able to have more of a variety of shots during my music video. Other than that I didn’t really make ant other changes.

Risk Assessment

Risk assessment

1.       Why is it important to consider risks before filming?

One of the main reasons why it is important to consider risks before films is to make sure that no one gets hurts while we are filming, and to make sure that they know all of the different hazards which could happen while filming and make them aware of anything which could be dangerous. Another reason why this is important is so that  don’t put any of my cast or crew in danger while filming and make sure that everything is done properly to ensure that no one gets hurt in the making of this music video.

2.       How will the risk assessment assist me while filming

I will use the risk assessment while filming to make sure that I am not putting any of my cast or crew in danger. I will inform them before filming of the possible dangers which could occur if they don’t conform to what is says on the risk assessment. This is because it is important that I make them aware of all of the different potential hazards which could happen while filming, for example some of my shots will be filmed in the middle of the road so therefore it will be important for me to inform my cast and crew of the potential hazards of the road, so in this instance making sure they are aware of everything which is going on in the road, and making sure that they are aware of the upcoming traffic, as it could be coming from either directions. Also as I am filming in low key lighting conditions, to make sure that the cast are even more aware and alter of the traffic which could be coming, and to get out of the way when traffic does come. Also while filming I will just be checking that what my cast and crew are doing is not risky. Below is a copy of the risk assessment which I used and showed my cast and crew to make sure that they were aware of the risks involved while filming.

Advert of a similar artist

Advert of a similar artist

In this post I will be talking about a similar artist, which is similar to the dance artist, which I am basing my music video on. The artist who I am basing my video on is Swedish House Mafia. I think that a similar artist to my artist is Calvin Harris as I think just like Swedish House Mafia as they all mix dance music in with other genres, and they both present dance music in a unique way.

Representation of music artist

I think Calvin Harris is represented as being a very unique artist through the way he resents himself and the devices which he uses to do this. I think that through devices such as colour that Calvin can be portrayed as a quirky and expresses person, I think that this is due to the colour yellow which a bright colour I think that this could is then connote that he wants to be a bright person and that he wants to stand out.   I also think that the use of the iconography which is used on this advert also helps to add to the music genre as sunglasses is something which is worn outside in the hot weather when it is sunny. This could then connote the whole idea of partying in the summer or going to sunny holiday, and party islands, as they could then be worn in the sun there as well. But it is also common to see a lot of artist wear sunglasses in night clubs where it is dark, and sunglasses are not needed but are worn anyway this is a swag which is often carried by a lot of different dance artist it is also very conventional.

Connotations of the advert

Some of the connotations of this advert are, very bright this could show that Calvin Harris wants so stand out from the rest of the artist which are in the dance industry. I think that this is conveyed through the use of the colour yellow as it is so bright, and stands out a lot. This is also a colour which is not used that often, but is still a conventional dance colour. I think that this advert also has quite a modern connotations to it, which is a very digital connotations I think that this is convyed through the use of the font as it is quite futuristic I think that this could then be linked in with the future as well as it is likely that the future could be quite digital, and I think that the use of this font conveys this. I think that this could then be linked in with the idea of a new dimension of music, and technology which has been brought into the music industry, and I think that Calvin Harris is showing that he wants to do that; bring new music into a new world.

Colours and connotations

There aren’t really that many colours used on this advert. There are two main colours which are yellow and black. These are used for all of the advert the only other colour which is used is white. The background colour for this advert is yellow, the shade which has been used is a very bright yellow, I think that this has a range of different connation’s some of which being the use of the colour yellow is very bright I think that this then makes the advert stand out more, so that if this was put up on display somewhere then it would attract people to look at the post I think that this is a very good colour to use as traditionally this colour is not used a lot when for posters for artists. I also think that the colour yellow conforms to the dance genre as well, and Calvin Harris is a dance artist, thus I think that this has a large effect on the people which see the poster as they might notice instantly that this is a dance poster through the brightness of the poster. The colour yellow may also be a trademark colour for Calvin Harris, this could be a way of making himself standout more, this could then mean that when people see this brightness they know instantly that the advert may be for Calvin Harris. I think that yellow is a colour which does stand out a lot I think that this could then connote that Calvin Harris wants to stand out in the music and dance industry, and that he wants people to notice his music, I think that he has taken this in a more literal form where he has actually used the bright colour so that people do then notice him, also I think that the colour is so bright that this could then force people to see it even if they didn’t want to, but due to the brightness people are attracted to it. Thus this could lead to people listening to his music. I think that another reason why he may have used the colour yellow may be so that yellow is a colour which is often related to the colour of the sun. I therefore think that this could then be a way of showing that Calvin Harris wants to be the sun of the music industry or at least the sun of the dance music industry. The sun is something which is bigger than all of the other planets and provides light to all of them. I think that this may be something which Calvin Harris may want to do in terms of other artists as he may want to shine some of his musical talents through to other artist. I think that this could be done through collaborations with other artists, in and out of the dance genre. I think that the colour yellow and its connotations of the sun could also mean that Calvin want to have an impact on the rest of the dance industry, I also think that this is further influenced by the use of the sunglasses which Calvin Harris is wearing. Another colour which has also been used is the colour black. This is used for the font which is on the advert and is used for some of the shading on Calvin Harris’s face, and on the glasses as well. The reason why the colour may have been used is because it stands out on the yellow background, and makes his name stand out; it also makes the front look bolder. The colour black also connotes power and darkness; this could then relate back to the idea of Calvin Harris dominating the music industry and dance industry and showing that he has a dominating manner over the industry. I think that this could then relate back to the idea of the sun being the biggest, this shows that Calvin Harris wants to be the biggest and could think that Calvin Harris might want this to be his biggest album out now. The black has also been used for the outline of Calvin Harris’s face, this makes his face stand out on the page, and adds some definition to his face, and make him look bolder. I think that the use of the black on his face could show that this power which he has over the music, and dance industry, conveying that this is a power which is within him and isn’t man made. I think that it is also showing that he has always had this power and this potential to have this dominance in the market has always been there, i think that this is further shown as the use of the black colour is in his hair which shows that this dance and music passion has always been a part of him. Then around his eyes and the lower part of Calvin’s Harris’s face there is the black again this helps to show that this natural power has always been in Calvin Harris. There is also the use of the colour white this is used for the colour of Calvin Harris’s face, i think that this helps to show the light, and the brightness which comes from being apart from of the media. As i think that the use of the white helps to convey the flash of the light which goes off when a camera is used, i think that the use of this helps to convey to the audience that the flash of the camera has just flashed in his face. I think that the use of all of these colours helps the advert to look a little cartoonish and i think that this is then transferred to the audience and makes it look really modern. I think that this helps to reflect the swagger which the Calvin Harris wants to show. I also think that the use of the bright colours also helps to make Calvin Harris stand out, so that people then notice the advert and attracts people, and makes them want to look at the advert.

Choice of images

There is only one main image which is used on this advert. This is the image of Calvin Harris’s face. I think that this is used to make the advert look really simple and make it obvious that the advert is about him and could be promoting his new album. I think that the use of only one image helps to convey the whole idea of Calvin Harris being a powerful artist and is therefore showing his face to the audience. I think that dance artist don’t tend to show themselves during their own music videos, so I think that buy having a large image of the artist on the front on the advert could immediately attract the audience to look at the poster. As sometimes when dance artist do star in their videos they are not the main person in the videos they more often or not play a cameo in their own music video. So I think that by having Calvin Harris on the front of the advert then makes him stand out more, as I think it makes Calvin Harris more of a statement, as he looks bolder. I also think that this plays into the idea of the artist (Calvin Harris) being the face of this album, I also think that this is a really simple way of just showing that this is his album. Also a lot of artists convey themselves in more of a sexual way on the front of their album covers to help to look a like more desirable and attract people to buy the album. But I think here Calvin Harris has kind of played on the idea of this, and instead of having a really sexual and attractive image of himself on the front cover, or use the notion of looking to make it look like it is a natural picture which has been taken, Calvin Harris has decided to do this differently. But applying more of a comic feel to his album and by looking directly into the camera, this could show that is then addressing the audience and is connecting with him. I think that this could then show that he is different artist, in a sense that he hasn’t gone for the conventional dance genre, which usually has different graphics on the front of their albums, or themselves. This image is also not a natural image, it is picture of his face but it has been manipulated and made to look a little like a quirky, and cartoon like. I think that this then makes his face look a little bit more modern, and convey that the type of music, which he is producing, is fresh. I the picture Calvin Harris is also wearing these glasses, I think that this is good iconography as these are a pair of sunglasses which have been worn in more than one of his music videos, and are often associated with Calvin Harris. He is wearing them in this image of himself. I think that this shows his unique style, and how he likes to stand out from other artist, which is also in the industry. They have also been manipulated I think that this is done to show that the glasses are apart of Calvin Harris, hence why they have been changed as well.

Typography

The use of the font which has been used on this advert is used to reflect Calvin Harris and the album. The largest font which is used is almost like a digital front, which is something which is often used on digital alarm clocks. Where the front is all made up of lines to made the words. I think that Calvin Harris has used this to convey the digital world which is music comes from. I think that this could show off some Calvin Harris’s personality, by conveying him to be someone who love technology. I also think that this could also connote that a lot of his music is generated by using other elements and a lot of technology to get his music up to a good standard which people enjoy and listen to. I think that by having this as the largest font and also having Calvin Harris’s name in this font could then reflect him as a person showing that he likes the whole digital theme. I also think that the use of the capital letters and the hard lines could also bring the seriousness to the album, as the artwork which has been used on the front is quite comic, I think that the front then brings back that seriousness to the album, that this is the release to his new album, this is his name, and his music. But then I think that the use of the cut off edges at the end of the letters which help to create the curved lines for some of the words. I think that this could then connote the idea of people dancing, and the curved edges showing the flexibility which someone moves as when someone is dancing they wouldn’t just move straight. I think that the use of this front could also suggest that conform and further enhance the idea of the electro dance genre which Calvin Harris produces a lot of music for. So I think that there is a connection there between the electronic music and then electronic appliances where that same style of font is used. There is then another front which is used again this very much conforms to the same electronic genre and theme again. But this front uses a lot of little squares, like tiny ones, which have all been joined together, to make the font. This font is a lot more curved, but still looks very digital, the font is also a lot thicker and bolder compared to the front which has been used for Calvin Harris’s name. This front is used to give the audience information about the name of the new album and the date which the album will be coming out. This font gives the impression that this font has also been taken from a digital appliance. Again just like the name of the artist all of the words and the fonts are all in upper case, so capital letters. I think this is so that it makes the writing easier to read for the audience, I also think that this makes the writing stand out a lot more, this could then catch the eye of the audience. For example if this was a poster which was up at tube station and someone was about to get on a train then they may see this ad, and be able to read it even if they are in a rush. There is not a lot of information on the font of this advert, just the necessary information which the audience would need to know like when the album is coming out. I think that the idea of Calvin Harris having so much power and such a presence in the music industry is enhanced where is says ‘I CREATED DISCO’ Then in a slightly smaller font there

Style of language

The style of language which has been used is very simple and direct. One of the reason why this is an advert so people don’t usually spend that much time looking at the adverts as it is just something they tend to just see while on the move or while traveling as it is something which they would walk past. Therefore the purpose of the advert as to be simple and bold so that it can then stand out more. So that people can the messages straight away without them have to read the whole advert. Another reason why there might be the use of minimal writing might be to convey the message to mas many people as possible, for example if this was an advert which was up at a train station or a bus stop and someone was to see it and they didn’t really speak that much English then it might be likely that they would be able to work out what the advert is about, and what it is promoting, through the use of simple wording, and bold lettering. I think that this is made the most clear from the words ‘The Album’ and then the date which is next to it. I think that this couldn’t have made is simpler what the advert is about. There is other text which is on the advert but again this is just simple text, just the name of the artist which tells the audience who the album is for and then the name of the album, so that people know the name of it if they wanted to go and buy it, and the date which it comes out, again making it clear when the audience is able to go out and buy the album themselves. Below this there is other text, but this is quite small. This could show that it is not as important and is not immediate information which people need to know. This is just the name of some of the songs which are on the album, this could come in handy as just a little reminder to tell people what is on the album, this could also help as if someone knew the name of a song which they liked but didn’t know the artist, but then saw this advert with the song on it and saw the name of the artist then this could then see who sings the song which could then encourage them to buy the album. I think this is just a good little remind to tell the audience what songs are on this album, and then number one hits and the most popular. I think that this is again for people who may have a little more time to read the advert, this will give them a little more to entertain them and keep them company, it is also just a little more for them to read.

How does the advert promote the artist?

One way which I think that the advert promotes the artist is by having an image of the artist on the front of the advert as this helps the audience see the artist and see him in a different light. I think that this then shows the audience what the artist looks like and could then encourage them to want to buy the album. I also think that through the use of the colours and the text, which helps to convey the style and the swag of Calvin Harris this then helps to show the audience he looks likes and the type of style and artist which he is. I think that the use of the design also helps to convey the dance, electro theme which Calvin Harris is a part of.

How does it promote the music genre?

I think that one of the main ways which this advert promotes the music genre is through the use of the colours and the use of the front which has been used on the advert. As it makes it clear that this is an advert for a dance genre, as the front is one which is commonly associated with the dance genre. I also think that this also makes it obvious that this is for the electro genre, through the use of the square front which conveys that type of dance and electro genre. I also think that the use of the sunglasses which Calvin Harris is wearing illustrates the dance and electro genre, as it is common in dance and electro music videos to see a lot of the artist wearing sunglasses even though they are inside. I think that this could then further enforce that idea of the dance genre which this music advert is for.

How does it attract target audience?

I think that one of the main ways which this music advert attracts its artist is through the simplicity. As it makes it look like the audience want to know what the poster is about, and could therefore attract them to want to find out what the advert is about. As all that is on the advert is the name of the artist and an image of Calvin Harris’s face, then there is also the name of the album and the date of the release. I also think that the use of mise-en-scene also attracts the audience, through the use of iconography. This is through the glasses which Calvin Harris is wearing, as these are glasses which have been used in more than one of Calvin Harris’s music video’s therefore I think that this could then attract the audience as they could want to know more about the poster and what it is about. It could also encourage then to look at the poster, as he is wearing those iconic glasses and may want to know why. I also think that this could then encourage the audience to want to know why his eyes are covered. I also think that because DJ artist don’t tend to feature themselves in their own music video therefore Calvin Harris could then stand out more because his face is so big on the front of the advert, therefore people could then notice the advert more and could encourage them to look and read the advert more.

This is just one example of a similar artist to Swedish House Mafia. I have looked at a whole range of different aspects to analyse the advert and the graphics which have been used on the advert, the reasons why they may have been used and the what affect this then has on the advert, in terms of if it serves its purpose.

Photoshoot

Photo shoot

1.      Why was a photo shoot essential to carry out

One of the reasons why it is important to carry out a photo shoot is because for one of the ideas for my digi-pack, and advert I decided I wanted to have a model on the front so that I could then conform to the dance genre of my music video. So to avoid having hassle with copyright issues I found someone, which might be willing to pose for a few pictures so that I could then pick the best one and use n with in my work. I think that this will help me to develop a little trademark for my artist so that when this woman is seen people know that its is for my artist. I found someone who was willing to pose for the shots; this was the other member of my group who said that she didn’t mind posing for the pictures so we decided to use her.

Another reason why I decided to carry out a photo shoot is because I think that it was better for use to use my own images as I would then be able to take as many as I wanted and then pick the best one out of the lot. This would also make the situation a lot more easier as I wouldn’t have to surf the web for hours looking for the right type of image, as I would be able to just take the images which I want and pose the character the way I want her to look in order for me to get the most effective shots, I would also be able to take as many pictures as I wanted to get the most effective shot, and choose the ones which I want to use.

2.

This is the first picture which we considered using. The reason for this being because I found this to be quite a dance related pose. I did also consider the other places where this image could be used for example on both the advert and the digi-pack. But then when this image was compared to the other images taken we found that some of the others were better.

This is another picture which I was going to use as well. I planned for this picture to be used on the front of the advert. Of course any of the pictures which I was going to use were going to be edited and changed a little bit so that it is more of a silhouette of the woman. To try and capture the theme of the dance conventions as well, as I have chosen not to show the artist so I thought that it could be important to make sure that I don’t just use an image of the woman on the front as she is not the artist, and I don’t want to confuse people.

This is the final image which I have decided to use. This is also the image which I plan to use on the digi-pack and the advert the reason for this is because I think that this is the best image taken and it conforms to the conventions of dance and I found that it fitted into the idea which I had for the digi-pack and the advert and I could edit this image a lot and make it look really good. I also think that this is just the best image which was taken.
3.This first image, which is chose to use, was the image which I have chosen to out on the front cover of my album and might use of the advert. This is the image of the girl posing like she is dancing. She is made to look like she has been caught in the middle of dancing, and she doesn’t know that the camera is taking a picture of her. This will go on the front cover of my album, the reason why I have chosen to have this image is because it conforms to the dance theme, and I think that if someone were to see this album then they would probably be able to guess that the album is promoting dance music. I think that this will also help me to connote that the girl is dancing and that this would be good music to play at a partying or to connote good clubbing music.

For the second image, which I decided to use, was a similar picture to the picture, which I used for the album, this is the image of the same model, striking the same pose, which looks slightly similar to the model on the front. The reason why I have chosen to have the same model here is so that I could then establish a little narrative as part of the digi-pack, so that it can then tell its own little story. I story which is will be telling is very simple as it will just e of the model dancing and how she is dancing through the digi pack. I think that this will then help me to connote that the someone having a good time when they go out, the reason I will only be using on is so that I could then connote that the woman and the motions and the feelings which she is going through when she is having a good time. I think that this narrative will also help so that the more that the people open the digi-pack the bigger the party will get, so I will try and illustrate this by the more that people open the digi-pack the more the of the girl partying they will see.

The third image, which I will be using, will be of the same model, but this image will be used on the magazine in stead. The reason why I have chosen to use the same model its to keep the theme of the party and the model going as I think that people may have seen the similar image of the model on all of the digi-pack. Therefore I think that this then helps to carry the theme of the dance genre and the party-clubbing scene, which I have tried to create on the digi-pack. I have tried to make it so that the model is striking a similar pose so that when people see the poster they may recognise the model straight away from the digi pack providing that they have seen the digi pack. I wanted to use a full body pose of the model so in order for me to do this I had to take a long shot of the model. I then decided that I didn’t want to use the whole of her and that I wanted to just use her from the knees upwards, so it is like the camera has just caught her in her element dancing having a good time. For this reason also I had to make sure that the model was not looking at the camera and that the angle at which I took the image was so that she was looking away and like I had just taken by chance and she didn’t know that there was a camera there.

Skills learnt

Adobe Photoshop is a very powerful program and is one which is used a lot by professional design companies to create effective and appealing graphics. It is often used for manipulating images, but can also be used for making something scratch. When used the right way some really professional graphics can be created.

I learnt a whole range of different skills while using Photoshop.  Adobe Photoshop is a program, which I am already familiar with as it is one, which I have used many times before. Therefore I found that a large range of the editing, which I was doing I already, knew how to do from my knowledge of the program. I edited most of the pictures the same way, but just used the pictures in different ways. One of the first things, which I had to do after taking the pictures, was to put them onto the computer. To do this I just put the images on a memory stick and then made a folder on my desktop and dragged and dropped the images into there. I then opened the first image up in Photoshop; I had to think about how I wanted to edit the image. To start with I opened a new document, which was around 12cm by 12cm, I also made sure that this background was transparent. I then went back to the image again, I selected the ‘quick select’ tool and then selected the body of the model, for the time being I just selected her whole body. One of the main aspects which I had to change was the size of the brush, to do this I had to edit the size of the brush I used a relatively medium size brush for the main part of the body, then for the edges which didn’t get selected I made the brush much smaller and then went around the edges. I was careful when going around the edges of the model that I only detected her body and none of the background, and the smaller the brush the less tolerant the brush is so that it is less likely to detect the other colours only the very similar colours, this helped me to get a better finish on the model. Once the whole model was selected I went to the black arrow at the top of the tool bar and then dragged the image of the model over to the transparent page which I had made earlier so now she was just on her own. I then decided that I wanted to change the angle of the models body to do this I held down, ‘Ctrl’ and then ‘T’ then creates a black box with 8 squares around the outside of my model. I then went to the edit button at the top of the tool bar and went down to transform, I then clicked on ‘screw’ and then tilted the model the way I wanted her to stand I had to be careful not to change the original image too much, so I had to make sure that the model still looked realistic and like a model. When I was happy with that I then pressed entre, this applies the transformation to my model. I didn’t stretch the model to much just enough; I stretched her from the top so that it appeared that her head and body was more forward.

I then went to change the position of the models body to do this I had to split her body in half, to do this I went back to the select tool again (which is located on the vertical side in the tool bar) I then only selected the top half of the model. Once I had selected the amount I wanted I got the black arrow and moved that part of the body this was just so that I could see that I had the right amount. It’s easy to see when there is an area selected when using the quick select too as it will have a dashed line running all the way around the area and will be moving constantly. I then pressed ‘Ctrl T’ again just like last time and this time I moved the body so that it was a till more straight. This helped me as it then made it look like the model is slightly forward and twisting her body. I found that this help to make my model look a little bit more like she is dancing. I then had to also move the top of the body back so that it matched up with the lower half of the body, of course the body wasn’t going to match exact now because of the angles of the body so in this case I has to then join the body up so that it looked realistic, fro, one side of the body, I chose the left side. It is important to now bear in mind that both half’s of the body are on two separate layers, so now  I had to make sure that I watched the layers which I was working on, otherwise it could cause problems later. To fill in the gap of body which is now missing I made a new layer by just going to ‘Layer’, ‘New’, ‘New Layer’ I then just called it middle. I know had to judge myself the width of the models body and what should go where. So I clicked on the ‘Clone’ which is on the side in the tool bar this looks like a little stamp. I then held down the ‘Alt’ key, this made the arrow look like a little target, I did this on the part of the body which I wanted to use, for example I cloned some of the stomach which I wanted to use to cover the gap and I then started to colour in the gap where the stomach should be, I also did this for the black t-shirt as well which she is wearing. I find that this is a process of trial and error, as it takes time to find the right skin tone and to continue the light and shade all over the body, and to make it look realistic.

But once I had finished that and I was happy with it, I then went on to edit the model further, I decided that it might look a little better if we made the model have a little more hair to make it look like she is swaying her hair, again to create that dancing effect. To do this I just used the same concept I used for cloning the body, but this time I was much more selective and I used a much smaller brush one which was almost hair stand thin, of course I didn’t have this for all of the hair I used different shades from the hair and different size brushes. Again I done this until I was happy with the finished product and I added enough hair.

From this point I was happy with the structure of the model and I could now go on to being more creative with the editing. To start with I merged all of the layers to do this I held down the ‘Alt’ key and selected all of the layers I then right clicked on the layers and then selected merge layers. I then went to the filter gallery and click on the ‘Artistic’ tab, I then clicked on a few to see that they looked like, but I then found one which I liked this was the ‘Cut Out’ effect. I think this because it gave me a nice silhouette of my model. Once I done that I didn’t play around with the amount of the effect which I wanted because if felt that it was fine, so therefore selected ‘Ok’ once I had done that, and then cropped the image leaving a bit of a bleed around the outside, and saved my model, of course it is important to save work throughout when working, just in case. Now this model was free to be used on any of graphics which I was producing being the digi-pack and the advert.

These are all the pictures, which I used on my digi-pack and my advert. I have spoken about my reason for using them, where I plan to use them and the effect, which I would like to create with the use of these pictures. I have also added images, which illustrate show, the image I will be using.

Planning the costumes

Planning the costumes

Here I will be discussing all of the different costumes which will be worn by the characters and why. I will be providing secondary evidence to help me explain what costumes I will be aiming to have for my characters and why.

The first character, which I will be describing, is the costume of one of the main antagonists. This is the mugger who will be playing the part of stealing the phone from our protagonist. They type of costume which he will be wear will be very stereotypical for the character which he plays. He will be wearing an all-black hoodie, which is slightly baggy this will help to disguise the shape and the identity of the character so that it would be hard for the protagonist to identify the character after that, if he was able to getting away from the protagonist. He will then also have on simple black tracksuit bottoms, which have the elastic at the bottom. Again the main purpose of these would be to help disguise the identity of the antagonist legs, so that he was able to get away then the protagonist would then be slightly unable to indentify the antagonist if he had got caught at a later date. He would also have on a balaclava this will be to disguise the look of the antagonist face so that it would then be hard to identify the look of the character. Then just to add to the colour scheme, which I have decided to use of this character, I will then be adding just simple black trainers this is so that nothing stands out that much.

The reason why I have decided to use the colour black is because it adds to the low key lighting which I have decided to use, as this will help the antagonist to bland into the background more so that he is then harder to see in the light, because he will bland into the background and then just strike out of no where and pounce on the girl. Using the colour black helps for my character to become part of the darkness, and become part of the fear, as he will just come out of nowhere. I think that another reason why I have decided to use the baggy clothing is to show that this character has been corrupt by the darkness and that is why he has decided to mug this girl. Think will be evident because his eyes will be on show, which will show that underneath he is a good person.

For the second character, which will be the protagonist, this is the girl who gets mugged. She will be wearing a dress again this will be just to conform to the conventions of a dance music video as well as the stereotypical of what a girl would wear. This will allow it to make the characters look more obvious, in terms of the conventions and make my character conform to the stereotypes of what girls of a young age wear. So I have decided to put her in a white dress this is for many reasons. One of which being to convey the innocence of the character and make her seem almost like an angle, as she save the antagonist even though he took her phone. The dress which I have planned for the protagonist to wear will be white, and just above the knee, she will also be wearing a cardigan again this will be like a white or cream colour. She will also be wearing just plain pumps, I’m still unsure of the colour of these, but they are mostly likely to be black.

The reason why I have chosen to use white is because it helps me in trying to portray the innocence and that this is a girl who is good. As the colour white can often be linked it with pureness, innocence and being good; almost angle like. I also think that I would also like the protagonist to stand out more, and juxtapose just how different the protagonist and the antagonist are. As the antagonist will blend in with the background and the atmospheres which the narrative and the music will create. Whereas I will want the protagonist to stand out a lot more and as white stands out as lot on black, but usually white tends to be the dominate colour, when it is used, but here I would like to show that the world is so corrupt that black is now the dominate colour as the world is no longer a safe place. This will help me to show that there is only a little good in the world and only a little bit of white and this has been shown here as the protagonist will stand out so much on the black setting. I also think that this will then make the protagonist stand out more and make her more of a target. I think that this will almost be like a way of showing that this girl would be considered a target because she stands out so much, and she doesn’t conform to the negative atmosphere which the setting portrays.

Thus making her stand out more and because she doesn’t blend in with the background and is just another person instead she is making her self-known and is not hiding away from anything. I also think that for the choice of the shoes that they might be black, I think that this would be a good way of portraying that the negativity is spreading through everyone even the good people including the protagonist, I think that this could then show that the negativity is also spreading through her as well, but slowly, I also think that this could show that it is spreading from the bottom upwards, thus is the reason why her shoes are black as they have started with her shoes and then it should slowly creep up wards in to her body.

One of the other characters who will also be playing quite a big part in the music video is the tramp, as he helps to portray to the audience that everyone has some good in them, and sometimes that could mean getting someone else to bring that out in them. This is evident when the tramp brings the goodness out in the pedestrian who was walking past him. I also think that this will be a good way of showing that he can also be a protagonist and be someone else’s hero and that you don’t have to have loads of different cloths and lots of money to do so. I the tramp will be wearing old sort of clothing which will be quite stereotypical, this will involve old type of clothing which is too big, dirty, and ripped. I think that this will be a good way of showing that the tramp has had a hard life. I also want to make it look like these are obviously not his clothes and that these are all he can find and that he don’t have time to think about what look good, and that the clothing which he wears is just for practicability and to keep him warm. I would like for out tramp to wear an over sized brown blazer, then just plain black over sized trousers as well. I will then want him to also be wearing plain black shoes, no socks, and a plain black or maybe white shirt, gloves with holes in and a scarf which is really short and old which can just about wrap around his neck. I have planned for all of these items to look rustic, old, torn and dirty this are to try and full fill the tramp look.

The reason why I have chosen to have these items of clothing is because it, I think that when the audience see the tramp one he will instantly look like a tramp but also, I hope that it will be clear that this tramp is wearing office like clothing and is the sort of clothing with people would often wear if they were going to work but of course the only difference here would be that the clothes no longer fit him and also they are all dirty and dark. I think that this will help to show that this was a man who use to be a business man and use the fit that the suit which he is wear but it no longer fits him now because he has been consumed by the darkness, and he had been reduced to living as a tramp on the side of the road. I think that this helps to convey the idea that the man has been reduced to this. I also that the use of the dark colours will help to show that he has been consumed by the reality and the darkness and is starting to become a part of it, it may just be that he has lost a job or something like that but it has reduce him to this. I also think that the use of these colours will help to show that he has almost become part of the darkness, I then think that the use of the brown jacket will then help to show that he has no completed moved over to the darkness and the use of the colour brown will show that there is still some good left inside him as the jacket has not turn black yet. I also think by having the jacket brown helps to show that the darkness moves up and the jacket is one of the clothing garments which cover the heart, thus helping to show that there is some good still left in his heart, and that is the last of his heart to change and show the darkness.

Another character which I will be using in my music video is the man who gives the tramp a burger. This is a character who is not is the music video a lot but his presences in the music video is very significant. This character will be wearing navy jeans, just a t-shirt, a black jacket, a pair of trainers, and a watch. All of these items of clothing will be fresh, new clean, and fir the character properly. I think that this will help me in show the different between him and the tramp and show how they both juxtapose with each other. This will help to convey to the audience the difference in the life style which they lead and reality which the both of them live in. I also think that this will show the two extremes of the characters. I think that this will also help to show that there can be one character which is sp fresh and clean and the other which is so dirty and is living rough but they both have one connection. This is that they are both wearing dark colours in some way, showing that some of both of them are wearing dark colours to convey the consumption of the darkness and the change in the people.
I think by this character wearing these clothing is helps to show that he has money, and wealth to afford these clothing. Hence why when he gives the tramp a burger he doesn’t really think too much of it, so this is something which he would just buy without thinking about it. But he knows that he knows that he knows that by giving this person a burger would make a difference to his life and save him. I think that he then does this because of the colours which he is wearing so the white and the fresh colours like reds, and blues to show that he is still a good person, and that he still has some good will about him.

The last set of characters which will be in the music video will be the people in the club I have decided to include them to help me to convey to the dance conventions during the music video. I also found that this fitted in really well with the beat and the pace of the song. I also think that this then helps to convey the second half of the reality of which we live in as this is just one side which I am showing which the narrative side of the reality which we live in. I think that this will give me the opportunity to show the party side of it, and that if everyone helps to save the world then this is the better life which everyone could live where everyone is happy and even though they are out at night they have no reason to be scared for anything and they are having a good time. I also think that there is another way which this can be perceived and this is where this is just another place all together and we are trying to show how different everyone can just have fun and have a laugh. But I also think that there is another way of looking at it, as these are people who are just having fun and not worrying about what is going on outside as they are just having fun while they can almost suggesting before they too get consumed by the darkness.

They will be wearing typical stereotypical clubbing clothes so; I plan to have girls in minimal clothing such as, short dresses way above the knee, tight dresses, shorts, and shinny leggings, short tops, short skirts, heels. While I think that the boys will be wearing smart clothing, such as trousers, shirts, shoes, jewellery. But I think that they could also wear, smart jeans, maybe trainers, and a t-shirt. This is to help them to conform to eh club conventions and show that they are all dressed out to go out and have a good time, because they can afford to. the reason I have put the characters in these clothing is to make I more obvious that they are in a club, and to show that they are all dressed up to go out and have a good time.

This is the costumes which I have chosen to put my characters in. I have discussed why I have decided to put them into these this clothing and my reasoning’s for this and how they will connect with the audience and the effects which it will have in my music video.

diversity of music videos

Diversity of music videos

Chris Cunningham and Michael Gondry are both directors, which produce diverse types of music videos, which often go against the conventions of a stereotypical music video. Most of the time the music videos, which they produce, do not conform to the stereotypical characteristics of typical music videos.  Reasons why they may do this is to make their music videos look different this could mean that people that watch the video is likely to remember it.

The first music video, which I wanted to analyse, was ‘Frozen’ by Madonna; this song was made, directed and produced by Chris Cunningham.

1.      Typically Madonna is a pop artist, some of the stereotypical conventions of a pop artist is to have bright colourful videos, and might have woman in revealing clothing, close ups of the artist to portray innocence. They are usually quite fun and light hearted, thus meaning that the music could then appeal to a much younger audience, Often the artist is featured in the music video, this is usually done to help build a fan base for their music, and this is sometime accompanied by for form of a dance routine somewhere in the song. Most of the locations, which are used, are mostly quite fun and bright locations for example the beach or a friends house. In order to help the song relate to their audience a little bit more it is common to have teenage scenarios for example having a crush, which usually is in relation to the song so that then the lyrics and the visuals match up. I think that a good few example of where this has been used is in the video by Taylor Swift ‘Never Gunna Get Back Together’ this uses most of these conventions throughout the music video. Other artist which have also conformed to this have been Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera these artist have all conformed to these conventions at some point.

But Madonna has not conformed to these stereotypical conventions of a pop music video. The typical conventions of a pop artist are not represented through the video. Compared to having a pop music video Madonna has chosen to go against the typical conventions of the pop video. One of the ways this is shown is through the tribute to a tribe which she has on her arm; this is shown throughout the music giving this a type of intertexture reference to it, as it is shown so many times which further suggests that this is a tribute as she has various close ups of this which suggest that she wants people to see this, and almost want her fans to wonder what it is. instead of this video having a fun, bright theme to it is comes across to be a lot more gothic, and dark; but I think that in this case the visuals do match the lyrics of the song and the beat of the music as it is quite slow. But this is still major change to the typical type of videos which Madonna does usually produce. I think that there is only one relation to the pop genre in this music video but I think that it has a much different meaning than what the meaning would be in a pop video. This is the use of the close-ups throughout the music video; this is off Madonna’s face, and other parts of her body such as her hands and arms.

But in the pop genre this usually makes the artist look quite innocent and convey how harmless they are, but I think that the reasons of the close ups in this video is a lot different as it is much more dark, almost evil look on her face, as throughout the video most of the time when Madonna face is shown through a close up it is emotionless. I think that this could then be seen as taking the fun out of the video, as when a close up is used it shows some kind of emotion but this is not the case here as, as the close up just shows Madonna to be very pale, this is further enhanced through the use of the dark hair as well which then make her look even more pale, I think that this almost gives her this type of witch look about her, as she also has the patterns on her arms as well which could also make her look like a witch.

2.      I also think that Goodwin’s theory is evident throughout the video, I think that not all but some of the features are the relationship between the visuals and the music, the close ups which are used to express the artists and star image motifs, in the video Frozen.

I think that the relationship between the music and the visuals are evident throughout the song, as the editing matched the visuals of the song as when the song picks up more of a stronger beat, so does the action of the visuals as it also speeds up. One example of where this has been used is during some of the cape scenes, where Madonna has this big black cape and she is letting it wave around everywhere this matches the editing, as the gets faster the song, the cape also picks up speed as well so that it all matches and graphically looks really good. The speeding up of the song as well as the speeding up of the cape I think makes the audience thinks that something fast is going to happen, as this is a way of building suspense through the video, as the cape changes it start to turn into different things some of which being a black dog which is formed from the cape. Another example of where this has been used is when Madonna says ‘give yourself to me’ this is a close up but then moves out to a mid shot and then a long shot of Madonna but as the camera zooms out there’s another two Madonna’s I think that this links together well as it is like saying there ‘give yourself to me’ and she has started with herself and all of her different sides of her have come out. I also think that this is a way of showing how she is different. I also think that the use of having her there three times also shows that she has a range of different sides to her for example the conventional pop music video side to her, this new gothic side to her, and then another side to her, this could be a more flirty side to her, I think that this has been conveyed a little bit through her choice of clothing as her has got a low cut dress on, and I think that this could have some sexual connotations, and then the close ups would then show the more pop side to her.

The other feature of Goodwin’s theory which I think is evident through this music video is the close up used to express the artists and star image motifs. I don’t think that this has been used loads but where it has been used it is quite obvious. The first being the tattoos which are on Madonna’s arms and hands, as she make a point of showing these throughout the whole music video, this could be new style which she has decided to adopt and is something which she wants people to see. She may think that the main way for her to be able to get this out to her fan and get people to see this new style might be through one of her music videos and that the repetitiveness of the hands throughout the music video is likely to get people to notice them. I also think that this could also link in with the idea that Madonna’s star image has also changed over time and this is one of the changes which she has had to make in order for her to keep up with the ever changing demand of the music industry. She may have also chosen to adopt this style to get her music noticed a little bit more and get people talking about her music and encourage them to listen to her music because it have changed so much.

I think that this could also then link in with the idea that Madonna is helping to change the music industry a little bit as she is an established artist she will already have fans who will still be listening to her music therefore she would be able to experiment which all different types of music as she knows she still has fans. I also think that another reason why she may have done this is because she may have wanted to diversify into a new music market and she may have believed that this is the market to get into. I think that this could then encourage people to want to listen to her music and make her music video stand out as people would have seen it and then it may stay in their minds and make them want to watch the video again, I also think that through the use of dynamic effects this could get people talking about her music and could therefore maybe encourage them to want to listen to her music as well.

3.      The style of this music video is very much a performance based video this is because Madonna is singing to the camera and is very much aware that the camera is there and that she is performing deliberately in front of the camera. I think that there are also some concept based elements in this video as well some of which being the use of the dog and the birds at the start and near the end of the video. I think that this is performance based because Madonna keeps into the camera making the audience watching aware that she is looking into the camera. I think that she has picked a way which doesn’t conform to the stereotypical way of having a performance based video; I think that this is due to her choice of location, the way that she is dressed and the way in which she portrays herself. I think that this would then mean that people are more likely to remember the music video because it doesn’t conform to the conventions and would therefore stay in the audiences mind a lot more. I also think by having a performance based video Madonna is able to show her passion for the song and convey her emotions and the message for the songs and how it connects to her on a more personal level compared to in a narrative, where this is done through a more visual way. As through the use of the performance based videos the audience is able to see what Madonna is feeling when she sings each individual word of the song. Madonna also doesn’t do much during this video as she spends most of her time just swaying and moving to the beat of the song to match the flow for the humming which she is creating. I think that this also has a connation of itself as well, for example the use of the humming and the swaying with the lyrics of the song, can almost make is seem like Madonna is mediating, and trying to connect with herself a little bit deeper. This could also be seen as she has been lost in the music and the fame, and now she just wants to reconnect with the person she use to be.

Birds juxtapose what is going on, she is saying come to be, and the birds are flying away this could show that there may be a reason why people don’t want to go to her. But then it’s the cape which transforms into the birds which was Madonna to start for with this could then means that she is the birds which are flying away. There were also a lot of birds, what looks like more than ten, this could then have connotations that she has meant different sides to her, and each bird is a different side to Madonna, and different personalities, this could then link in with the change in the genre which this song has to it. As it is not part of the stereotypical conventions which she usually conforms to, being a pop artist. I think that there are also other connotations to use of the birds as well as they are ravens, these are birds with are known for stealing, thus acting as an oxymoron in the song as Madonna is talking about ‘coming to her’, so the use of the bird and them flying away might be that they have flown to her, but have taken parts of her, thus transforming into her. So instead of staying with her, they have flown off, and this could be one way of illustrating why she wants the people to go to her, so that they get to know her more and understand her more.

I also think that the use of the tattoos on her hands and arms also suggest that she wants the people which go to her to become part of whatever it is that she has joined, hence her saying ‘come to me, come into my arms’ as the print is on her hands and arms, so she could metaphorically be transferring the same believes onto that person. I think that this is further enhance through the video where there are a Varity of close up shots of Madonna and her hands, suggesting that the pattern on her hands means something and that she want the audience to understand this as well.

4.      I think that Madonna has presented herself in a very different light to which she is usually in. This may be because Madonna is an established artist and therefore has loyal fans, this could then able her to experiment with her style more. She may have also wanted to standout from all of the competition which may have been in the market at the time, this would then attracted more attention to her, so that even people who aren’t her fans will want to see how she has changed her style, and what it has now become. In this video she is shown to be very stripped back, in terms of appearance, as she is not wearing any makeup and her hair hasn’t really been styled that much for this video and her clothing is very dull. I think that this then shows her style to be very different I think that she has done this to stand out more. I also think that Madonna is represented as being a different person and making herself look different and make herself stand out.
The second music video, which I choose to analyse, was ‘Come Into My World’ by Madonna; this song was made, directed and produced by Gondry.

1.       Kylie Minogue is a conventional pop artist, even this song is a pop song, and this is evident through the beat of the song. Kylie herself also has all of the typical conventions of a pop artist in terms of her style and the way she portrays herself as an artist. But the nature of this video, is not a conventional pop music video, this is shown by what she is wearing, and what is happening in the music video. Some of the conventions of a pop music video, some of the conventions of a music video are; to be very colourful and bright. They are also spouse to be quite fun and light hearted, there’s spouse t be close ups of the artists face, they are usually in a good mood, this is usually reflected through the locations, they usually appeal to a teenage audience. These are the main conventions of a pop music video, some of the artist which usually shows this in their music video is, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Christina Aguilera, and Lady Gaga. These are all artists which has a series of different videos which conveys them conforming to conventions. I think that a good example of where this has been used in a music video is in Lady Gaga’s ‘Just Dance’ where there are a lot of close ups and a whole range of different colour used throughout. I think that in this music video that there are not those main conventions which have been conformed to in this music video. This is evident through the fact that most of the music video is filmed in long shots of Kylie, walking. I think one conventions which may be seen as similar to the pop genre would be the use of the continuity editing. This happens from the start to the finish of the song where the camera just follows Kylie throughout the whole video. This could then be seen as similar to the pop genre as they too usually follow the artist throughout the music video.

This is why I think that in this sense that this could be seen as a characteristic of the pop genre which is featured in this music video. I think that it is clear from the choice of location that Kylie has chosen for this music video that it doesn’t conform to the pop genre, as the setting of a pop video is usually very bright, and a fun place to be like at a friend’s house, at a party and so on. but instead the setting which has been chosen can be seen as interesting but, it is quite boring and I would almost say negative, as some of the narratives which are going on in the background are a couple who are arguing, and the woman in the couple is through the males clothes out of the window, there’s commotion being caused, when one man causes one of the motor bikes to fall over then they all fall over, these are a few examples of some of the negative incidents which happen during this music video. I think that this can connect to the lyrics of the song more, and play a little more to the narrative instead. This then helps to link the lyrics to the visuals to the song and shows the audience Kylie’s world. I think that this could almost be a way of Kylie conveying to the audience the life style which Kylie may have come from before she became famous and her life changed. Thus conveying how she uses to just live a normal life as well and she wasn’t some big celebrity. This is conveyed the most where she hasn’t got paparazzi following her around, and no one has noticed her at all while she is just walking through the streets and no one has stopped her. I think that there is something which stands out even more than that which shows that she is not famous and that is that Kylie is holding her own dry cleaning and has gone and picked it up herself. I think that this is just a few aspects which Kylies has used to try and show that she is the same person as she was before the fame and that she would go and pick up her own dry cleaning. I think that this portrays the fact that she still sees herself as being the same person as she was before, and that she has no intension of changing the person she is.

But I also think that this is a good way of Kylie illustrating that she has always had this voice, even before she became famous, and that it is just part of who she is. I think that this could thus portray that this is the tool which has made she famous, and is one of the reasons why she has managed to get to where she is today. But I think that the main message is that she has always had this, I think that this is shown through the in the video where she is just wearing normal clothing, conveying that she is still lives her life the same way. Just like there is the repetition in the music video there is also repetition in her life, this could be like the routine in her life, I also think that this also show that she also has a routine and structure to her life just like everyone else and I think that one way of showing this would be through the use of performing normal jobs which other people have to do. I also think that through the use of her singing shows that she has always had this voice and that through singing.

2.      I think that Goodwin’s theory is evident through this music video, I think that there is a mixture of them, but there’re not all of the theories there. these are; the relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, intertextual references, and the notion of looking.

The relationship between the lyrics and the visuals. This is because the Kylie is talking about people coming into her world, I think that one of the main messages which she is talking about its having a male come into her life, and making sure of her as a person, so someone to use her lip and someone to use her heart. But the way she is saying it, is like she wants someone to come and change her life, and make her feel different, and make a change to the routine to the life that she is living. I think that by the use of the setting kylie is showing the audience just how boring her life currently is and how she just wants someone to come along and change that for her and make her life more interesting, and break the routine which she is living. I think that this is conveyed the most every time she walks past the dry cleaner and another Kylie is generated, I think that this could show that she has a lot on her mind, but every time another Kylie it is like she is coming up with another thought with is on her mind about someone new coming into her life and making a difference, in the video come into my world.
I think that there is also an intertexual reference in this video as well, I think that this it Kylie showing that beneath everything she is a normal girl. Conveying that she is just like another one else. I also think that this video could be like a way of showing that everyone has a talent of their own, and it’s not all about being glamorous and having loads of money. I think that this is a way of showing that everyone could have a talent about them and that you don’t have to be glamorous to show this.
There are also certain aspects of the notion of looking though the video as well, this is evident where Kylie is walking through the street and she is just singing. I think this is the main point where the notion of looking takes place, as no one in the music video is looking at the camera and everyone was doing their own this. Examples of where this was used was where the men are carrying the table into somewhere and there’s a man just putting displays up on the walls, he actually puts something on the wall it says ‘Ensembles’ this means a groups of different people, different groups of people which do different things all come together to make something good. I think that that’s the case here that Kylie is trying to show that a whole range of different people have come together to make something, in this case it has been to help make the song but I think that this has connotations of its own which could mean that a whole range of different people could have come into Kylies life which has made this whole prospect of her life a lot more fun. I think that she is also trying to say that if people come into her life that she will be able to create something better than before when she was on her own.

3.      The style of this music video is both concept and performance based videos. I think that the performance aspects come into this where Kylie starts to acknowledge the cameras and starts to sing into them. I think that this could have connotations to it as it could show that as she has become more famous she has started to notice the camera more in her life, and she has noticed that the more famous that she is getting the more people want to see her and the more the camera are coming into her life. I think that can also be linked to the multiplication of the number of Kylies as it could show how she is juggling her life, and how she has to make a whole range of sides to her to accommodate this live which she now lives where there’s cameras everywhere and somewhere where it’s important to have a whole range of different sides for where she is in the spotlight, when she is at home, and when she may be with her family, for each side she may need a new side to her and I think that’s portrayed well through the use of the performance part of the video, where at least one of her is looking at the camera at one time and shows how she has to be paying attention to it at some point, I think that, that camera which she is paying attention to could be seen as the one which could connote her life in the spot light. There are also some stages of the song where the all of the Kylies are staring into the camera I think that this could then show that’s the more famous she is getting the more time she is spending in front of the camera and being in the public eye. I think that the concept based part of this music video is also very obvious as this is where          the same bit of action is being repeated over and over again. As I think that this makes it more obvious to the audience what is going on and understand why this part of the music video continues to be repeated. This is used to convey the constant routine in her life and how much she wants someone to come into her life and make a change, to change some of her life and how she’s wants for tit to be changed and she wants for someone to come into her life and excite her and make her happy.

4.      In this music video Kylie is not being represented as the artist who she is known for being in all of her other songs and her other albums. Instead of making herself look interesting and fun. She has deliberately made herself look boring. But I think that at the stage which this song came out that Kylie was able to experiment more with the type of music videos which she is producing that is why I think that she may have done this. I also think that this also makes her look like a boring artist in terms of her style and her image. But then on the other hand I also think that this could almost be like a way of Kylie saying that it’s not all about how people look, it’s more about the skill and the talent which a person has. So I think it’s almost she’s stripping herself back of all the glamour and showing that she is just a normal person just like anyone else and that it all about her voice not about what she is wearing or what she looks like.

I think just like any music video there are going to be good aspect and back aspect bout the video and I think that this is the case here. Due to the diversity of music videos they tend to stand out more compared to other music videos which are also in the market. I have discussed two artists above where I have spoken about two famous directors to see how they have put their spins on music videos in order to make them different. I think that this then makes it obvious that there are some advantages and some disadvantages to this, some of which being;

Some of the advantages of having a more diverse music video could be; the first that it then makes that artist music video more memorable and stand out more against the other music videos.  thus encouraging people to want to watch the music video again to see more of the video, as the viewer usually doesn’t get the concept of the music video the first time, this then encourages them to watch it again which then leads to them liking the song more. Another advantage would be due to the song being stuck in one persons head from watching the video then they may recommend it on to someone else to watch. I think that another advantage would be that this is the type of music video which is going to get people talking, and spreads the word about the music video again this will make people want to watch the music video even more. I think that there is also another main advantage here and that would be that when an artist changes their style slightly that they are then opening themselves up to target new markets. I think that this could be a potential effect on the artist this could then be better for them as then more people would want to listen to them, they would then have a larger audience, and that could create loyalty between the fans and the artist. I think that these are the main benefits which come with having a diverse music video.
By their also some disadvantages to having a diverse music video and some of these are; the first one being that some people may find the nature of the music video boring or if some people find the music video too disturbing to watch therefore they may not watch it, this could then spread a bad word about the music video and people may not want to watch the video. thus leading the song not to do very well, this could also then lead to the artist damaging their own reputation as well in the process. I think that there is also another main disadvantage which is if people don’t want to watch the music video then that would have been a waste of money for the record label, as well as being something which could potentially damage the reputation of the artist as well as if they get tarnish for having a bad music video then that will stay with them. They could also lose fans because of this as well this would also be bad for the artist, as then people may not want to listen to the music as a consequence of this.

I think that for the chosen genre which I have chosen to base my music video on, which is dance that I might be able to use a few of  the elements which have been used in the music videos which have been produced by Cunningham, and Gondry. But I did find that I didn’t really
like the Diversity of music videos used in the music videos above. As I am aiming to conform to the codes conventions of dance e.g bright colours, and club settings I don't think that I will be creating a diverse music video.
