Digi-pack 1 and 2

Analysing my first Digi-pack
Here I have analysed my first digi-pack, I will be discussing what is good about my digi pack. What changes I would make to improve my digi-pack when I make it again. I will also be looking at how my digi-pack conforms to the typical conventions of the dance genre.

How my digi-pack conforms to the dance genre
I used a whole range of different devises to ensure that my digi-pack conforms to the dance genre. Some of these will be; choice of front, colour, and graphics. As through the use of these, and a combination of all of the right one effective digi-pack, this should make it obvious that, my digi-pack is aimed towards the dance and house genre.

The first side- the front cover
For the front cover I used a whole range of colours as I thought that this is one of the main things, which people would see. For example if someone was to walk into a shop and they saw this on the shelve then I think that this could then catch their eye as they walk into the shop through the use of the bright colours. I think that this could then attract a lot of people not just people who listen to dance music but anyone who walks into the store and is attracted by the bright colours. Some of the colours, which I used on the front, are black, blue, red, and grey.
For the actual background of my digi-pack I used the colour black. The reason I used this was to try and set the scene for my digi-pack as it is usually quite dark in night clubs, to the point where it is almost black because they don’t tend to have that many lights on apart from strobe lights. Therefore I thought that it could be a good idea to have black for my background as it connotes darkness and it is usually dark in nightclubs. Therefore I think that this could be a good way of relating to my audience, as they are likely to be familiar with that background and setting I also think that this helps to convey that this is the type of music which is on the album is the type of music which would usually get played at nightclubs and parties. Thus conveying to the audience before they have even picked up the alum the type of music, which is likely to be on the album. I think that the black also relates to the songs on the album as well, as the name of the album is ‘Save The World’ and so links to the darkness in the video.
One of the other colours, which I used, was red. The reason I used this colour was because I think that this is a well know dance colour so I thought that it could look good if I use it on my work. I didn’t use loads of red I just used it mainly in the places where I felt could benefit from the colour. The reason why I chose to use the colour red is because I think that this is a really common colour which is used in night clubs and at parties, for example on party islands there is likely to be a lot of red strobe lights. I also think that the colour red also have a lot of connotations itself, some of these are; love, lust, fun, bright, bold, and wild. I think that these are just some of the connotations, which comes from the colour red. I think that these are some of the emotions which are portrayed through this colour. I also want for my audience to think some of these connotations when they see the front of my album. I think the element of having a bold colour on the front of my cover like red also helps for the CD to stand out so if it is on the shelve next to other albums then I would hope that my album would stand out more at catch the attention of people.
I have also use the colour blue. The reason for this is because I think that it helps to connote the night. As this is the time, which people go out clubbing, therefore I think that this is a colour, which could also be similar to the audience as well. I think that just like red this is a colour, which stands out a lot, I found that with the use of the colour red that I have used with it, it has helped the blue standout more as the colours don’t cash, and they both complement each other, making the blue stand out more. The blue, which I have chosen is a very bold midnight blue, the reason why I have chosen to have this colour is because I think that it carries stronger connotations for the night, as the colour is quite close to the colour black and it also reminds people of the colour black I also think that the colour of the sky is also really similar to the colour which I have used myself. I found that this colour really complainants my work well and help to conform to the dance genre as this is a colour, which is often used a lot in dance videos.

These are the main colours which I have used on my front cover, the reason why I have used them is because I think that they all conform to the dance genre really well, as well as the colours really going together and working well, as I don’t think that the colours clash. I found that the colours produce a type of purple type colour I think that this is another colour, which is also often used a lot during dance music videos and on the albums. I also think that these colours tell a story as well, some of which being; the black to connote the night of which the time that people would go out clubbing, then the red I think could be the people which are at the club, as they are full of energy and standout they are also the main focus of the club, then I then that the use of the navy shows the time of which people would go clubbing which is at night, then the use of the colour grey, could also connote the metallic world, and the people that go clubbing could be wearing, for example jewellery, and the metallic-ness of some of the clothing which people wear. I then think that the combination of all of these colours, which helps to make the type of purple colour, shows the combination of people and how well it all works together.

I have also used a range of different graphics on my advert, this is to try and portray the dance genre, and reflect the type of artist, which my artist is, and try to convey some of his swag.  One of the main graphics, which I have used on the front cover, is the dancer, which I have on the front. I think that having this model on the front of my digi-pack helps my album conform to the dance genre. I have tried to make it look like she is in the middle of dancing and someone has taken a picture of her. I also think that the way I have taken the picture I have also emphasised this is so that the audience can tell that the girl has just moved and that she is in the middle of dancing. Another reason why I used a woman is because it is very conventional to see a woman on the front of a lot of dance related aspects such as digi-packs, adverts posters. I think that this could also attract more people to look at the poster and encourage them to find out what is going on. I think that it is obvious that it is dance but people could want to know what is going on. She is also wearing very prerogative clothing, which I think makes it more obvious that this is a part of the dance genre. I also think that the use of the blur also helps to convey the motion of the woman and the way that she is moving. This could illustrate that there is both fast and slow music on the album. The slow conveyed through the position of the woman, which has been used, and then the fast where the blur tool has been used to convey the fast movement as well.
I have also chosen to use the save the world sticker on the front of the album as well. My reason for this is because this is the same sticker, which I will be using for one of the songs. But as this is the same song as the album I thought that it could be a good idea to have that on the front of the album as well, to really try and sell the song. I also think that because this sticker is so iconic in the song that it could be a good idea to use the stick on the front cover as well so that then people can see the sticker on the front of the album and then could want to buy the album having seen the sticker from the song and in the music video and then the sticker on the front of the album could then be used as a device to persuade the audience to buy the album having seen the sticker in the music video.

These are the main graphics, which I used on my digi-pack I didn’t want to over crowd the page with load of different aspects. So for this reason I decided to use a minimal amount a graphics but then make the most of them and make sure that they were quality graphics, which were eye catching and on which stand off the page. I also ensured that they were large as I thought that this could also help to fill some of the space on the front of the cover I also made sure that it wasn’t too crowded. Of course I didn’t make all of the graphics the same size I made them a whole range of different sizes, which were suitable for the front cover of the album, and conforms to the dance conventions.

I think that the choice of front, which I have used on the front of my album, is very important; as it is these, which can be, keep in presenting the genre of music, which is being portrayed.
I have used more than one font on the front of my album cover the reason for this is because I want to convey the style of the artist as well as the genre of music, which is also being represented.

In order to help me convey that this is a dance genre of music I have used a very hard font to illustrate this. I have done this for the words “Phil and the” my reason for this is because as well as showing that this album is of the dance genre I think t hat this also conveys that the artist for this album is also a dance artist, and that is the genre of music which they mainly produce. Through the research which I did before producing my first draft of my album I found that a lot of the fonts which were used hard and sharp, and that the letter were placed close together, and that the font was very sharp and together. I thought that this conveyed a type of seriousness for the genre of music. I also think that that could then be linked in with the dress code which people are expected to were when they go clubbing, as usually is very dressy and formal, I think that this is the case with a lot of dance fonts where they are very sharp just like the style and the way people are spouse to attend a club. I think that I have managed to convey this through the use the font I have used for some of the artist name. Then for the word “Jukebox” I thought that it could be a good idea to convey some of the artist personality a bit more. I thought that a good way of doing this could be to have a different font and to make it bigger so that it stands out more, and portrays a little bit more about the artist and not just the dance genre, but may more about the artist and some of the other sub genres which could be incorporated into some of the songs on the album. For example judging by the font which has been used it could be easy to say that they is almost like a very retro, or maybe motown remix on some of the album. I also think that the font which is used for the word “jukebox” could also be a way of showing where the inspiration of where some of the music came from. I think this is clear through the major change in the front as I think that it is very different from the font which, has been used for the first part of the name. The second part of the name “Jukebox” is much more curved and rounded I think that this makes the wording convey a different meaning, of which I think could be the fluidity I think that this could then be flow of dancing and the way that people move as when people dance it tends to be quite fluid and flow, and I think that the way that the text is, that is illustrated. I also thought that through the use of the curved words they are almost touching, I think that this could then portray the idea of people socialising and coming together, getting to know each other, I think that this is clear through some of the words touching so it’s like a group of people could be one group and then when the words touch it’s like the people socialising. Thus conveying the effect which the artist wants to have on the audience and the effect they would like to happen when their music is played so, in this case it could be bringing people together to relax dance and have a good time.
The last bit of text which has been used on the front of the digi-pack is the name of the album. One of the songs on the album has the same name as the name of the album. This is also the song which I chose to produce my music video of. I made a sticker for some of this video, and it is something which is used throughout the music video. For this reason I thought that it could be a good idea to use this sticker on the front of the album, as I thought that this could attract people how may like the song on the album. I also thought that is someone had seen the music video but didn’t know who the song was by but then saw this album in the store that they could then realise that this is the album for that song. I have tried to keep with the dance conventions, through the use of the fonts where I have a block font and through the use of the bright colours and the lettering. I think that this helps the album to be more eye catching and use bright colours which are often used to express the dance conventions. I also think that through the use of the bright bold colours that this could make the album stand out and attract people to look at the album, I also think that this could make it more obvious that this is part of the dance genre, which could then help to appeal to people to like to listen to the dance genre more.

Though the use of the graphics, the colours, and the fonts I think that I have managed to make it clear that this is the font cover of an album which conforms to the dance genre. I have tried to create a dance setting through the use of the bright colours to illustrate lighting, and strobe lighting which is often in clubs and can be found on party islands as well. I wanted this to suggest the type of music which is on the album as well as the type of setting which the music could be played, for instance at a club. I have reinforced darker colours as well such as blacks and blues this is to portray the night and the time of which this type of music could be played and  the setting of which the music could be played in, for example; at a night club which is what I mentioned above. I really think that through the combination of these colours that this is suggested. I have also found that through the use of the graphics it has helped to bright to life the idea of the partying setting which the music could create as well as the time of which this music could also be played. I think that the choice of font has also really tried to make it even more oblivious that this conforms to the dance genre through conforming to the conventions which confirms that this is an album for the dance genre.

Changes: if I were to re-design a digi-pack then there are a few changes which I would make to the front cover of my digi-pack (being the first one which I have designed).
The first change which I would make would be to, change the size of the ‘Save the World’ logo. The reason for this is because I think that it is too big and much bigger than the name of the artist. I think that if I were to design the front again then I would definitely have the name for the artist bigger as this is the first thing which I would want the audience to see when they look at the digi-pack.
I also think that I might have added something else to the front of the digi-pack, like maybe another little graphic for something just to make the front cover stand out a little bit more. I also think that this could help to fill up some of the space which is missing as well.

Improvements: These are the changes which I made which helped to produce my second digi-pack. One of the main changes which I made was to the background; this is because I got rid of the woman which was on the background. The reason why I got rid of her was because I wanted to see what the front cover would look like without her and if it would look better like that. I also wanted to do this so that I would be able to see if the genre of music was still clear on the front cover even with no woman.
In addition to this I also changed some of the colour of the background. My reason for this is because I wanted to see what other effects I could create. I kept the main colours the same which was the red and the blue, but then I also incorporated another colour this was a much darker blue. The reason why I wanted this colour was to try and capture the mid night club setting and stereotypical club setting which is often used a lot on the front of digi-packs. Then to try and capture the save the world theme I mixed all of the colours together that created this effect the swirl effect. I think that is makes it look like the world. I think that this is through the circle affect which is created I think that this can make this shape look a little bit like the world so I think that this helps to link in with the save the world theme which I also tried to create on the front cover of the album. I think that this also create another effect which is one which is like in the middle of all this swirling is heading into the world, conveying the fact that the world needs saving.
I also made the font a lot bigger as well, and changed the positioning of it as well. The reason I done this was because now I had no graphics on the front cover of my digi-pack so I thought that it would be a good idea to make the font which I do have on the front bigger. I think that this could help the audience to see it clear and it stand out more. I then also moved it to the middle of the digi-pack as well, I done this because the central point and focus is at the middle of the cover where the swirl is going in therefore I thought that it could be a good idea to have ‘Save The World’ and ‘Phil And The Jukebox in the middle so that then they become the central point as well. also saving the world is the main message as well as the name of the artist therefore it is important that they are in the middle, this also helps to make it more obvious that it is about the world in the middle of the image, and just to re-enforce this I have also got the little image of the world as well just to show that it is the world. I also think that this image shows that everything is connected in some way or another just like how all type of music can be linked to together I think that this can then tell the audience that there can be some songs on this album which may be mixed in with other genres of music. I think that this graphic also helps to convey the idea that the world is ending. I think that this is illustrated through the use of the red which is being swirled through everything so that could almost be seen as an evil, and then the blue could represent people, and the sky and just everything else then the effect of everything being swirled into one then into a the darkness of the middle of the page can convey the unknown, like the world is going into the unknown. I think that this could also then be linked in with the idea of all the different music which could be on the album and that the audience are don’t know what else could be on the album until they listen to it.

The second side- the welcome message

I have tried to make sure that throughout the whole of my digi-pack I have kept the graphics and the theme consistent. For me to do this I had to make sure that I kept a good colour scheme, and kept the dance genre flowing throughout my digi-pack, I have done this through my choice of colour, font, and graphics.

For my choice of colours I had to make sure that I kept them in some way related to the colours which I used on the front cover of my digi-pack. Baring this in mind I chose the colours red and blue again; my reason being because these are the colours which I used on the front cover of my digi-pack and I found that they worked well there. I was careful to make sure that I didn’t used colours that were going to clash with each other and that would work together well. I found that this was an important factor for the second side as this is where I would be placing the welcome message from the artist to the fans. Therefore the writing on this part of the cover had to be read able.
I kept the colour of the background black just like the front cover the reason for this was because I wanted the digi-pack to tell a story and carry a narrative running throughout. As I think that this could be more enjoyable for the audience, as well as making the digi-pack just that little more interesting. That is the main reason why I decided to use this colour on the inside of the digi-pack where the welcome message goes.  The colour black has a whole range of different connotations to it, some of which being; of the night, mystery, danger, and I think that it can also connote the idea of a blank canvas. Where anything can happen and anything is possible. I think that this could also suggest that anything could happen at a party, and could also show that no one who’s what is going to happen, and I think that this is something which can often be related quite a lot with going out partying and going out clubbing. I think that this then links back in with the genre of music which I am producing the album for which is the dance genre which the album is aimed out.

The other picture which I used was red; this is the colour which is sitting on top of the black. The reason why I chose to use the colour red is because this is the colour which I used on the front cover of the digi-pack and I think that this could then be good to use throughout the whole of the digi-pack. The reason why I have decided to use the colour red is because I think that it is bold and stands out a lot against a lot of other colours. I think that this is a colour which can be related to clubbing and partying. The colour red has a range of different connotations, some of which being love, lust, fun, expressiveness of boldness. It can also connote danger, blood and alertness. I think that these are all factors which occur at parties and while clubbing. I think for every person they would be able to relate to all different of these connotations in some way. This is because everyone is different and can therefore there is a whole range of different people at parties, which all feel different things. For this reason I think that red is a good colour to use is quite reflective of a lot of people who go clubbing. I thought that another reason why it could be good to use the colour red is because it is often used for strobe lights in clubs and on a lot of party islands. The other reason why I chose to use the colour red is because I think that this is good for connoting the energy of a party, and how people are having a good time. I also think that this could also be used in relation to body heat and everyone being too close together when partying. That is the effect which I have tried to create, and I want this energy to carry throughout the whole of the digi-pack.

I have also used the colour blue; it is sort of a dark navy blue the reason why I have used this is because I think that this is also a party colour. This was also one of the colours which I used on the front cover as well. Therefore I thought that it could be a good idea to use the same colours throughout the whole of the digi-pack to keep the narrative going. The reason why I have chosen this colour is because I think that it reflects the night, and I think that this is the time where most of the partying goes on. I think especially in terms of party islands, and maybe the time of which people come out of clubs can really link into the colour which is being used here. As it’s the type of colour which could maybe is used just before sunrise, which is even most people stop clubbing, I also think that this is the same colour which could also be used for the cross over from the day over to the night. Thus linking back to the album and the songs which are on the album, as through the use of the colours show that they are the type of colours which reflect dancing  and having a good night out. The colour blue is also one which can be link in with the colours which are used for strobe lights, which get used in clubs and party islands. I also think that the use of the blue could also be reflective of sea from when people go clubbing to the party islands. I think that this then shows when this music should be played and is suggestive of the type of music which is on the album.  The mix of all of these colours creates a very purple colour. I think that this can connote all of the different meanings. Conveying the joining together of all different people having a good time.

These are the main colours which I have used on the welcome page. The reason why I have used these colours is because these are the colours which I have used on my front cover and I think that they link in well with the genre of music which I have targeted this song for. I also think that this conforms to the conventions of partying and going out clubbing. I think that through the use of these colours that I am able to tell a story, just through the way that they are positioned. As the black could show the setting of the partying, or just any place where the music could be played. There is then the red circle which then sits on top of that, this conveys the feeling, and the energy of the party I think that this is good because, everyone is usually really close together, and dancing which is the red circle in the middle of the black background. There is then the use of the blue, I think that this connotes the life of the party, the strobe lights, the time of which the party is going on as well as the colours of the surrounding for example both the sky and the sea depending on what the audience is thinking off.

I have used very little graphics on this page of the digi-pack. My reason for this is because this is a page which has a lot of information on it, and therefore I think that it is better to make sure that the background is not too over crowded. For this reason I just decided to use colours, and try to portray them as the graphics for this side of the digi-pack. I have tried to make it look like a narrative as well as looking like a beam of light which are at parties or even strobe lights where the camera is looking down the strobe lights. I think that this I a good way of conveying the inside of a party and what is really going on. I think that this is also a really good way of portraying the idea of what the artist is really thinking. So in a way it is like the audience has got the chance to really get into the mind of the artist, the making and the thoughts of the songs on the album, thus portraying the thoughts of the album and who the artists wants to make the audience feel through his songs.

The main graphic which is being used here is the use of the circles. I find that this is a good way of telling the story of what is happening throughout the album in a very simple form, as well as portraying what the artist wants the audience to feel when they open the digi-pack. The story which is being told is the black background which should fill the audience with mystery of what the night could hold, thus suggesting that every time the audience listens to the music they could feel something different every time. Then the red, being the life of the party and energy which fills the room from the excitement of all of the people who are partying, as well as a whole range of emotions which they may be feeling. There is then the use of the blue circle in the middle I have used this to suggest the partying setting. Some of the aspects being the strobe lighting which occurs in clubs, the sea which is around these party islands; thus suggesting the type of places where the music on the album would be played. I have also tried to make this look like it is the front view of a strobe like. Almost like it is being shown straight into the camera, I think that this is a good way of displaying the life of what happens at a party.

I have used only one font on this side of the digi-pack. This is because all that will be on this side of the digi-pack is the text which will be telling the audience what the artist wants to tell to the fans; which will be the thank you message to the people that the album is devoted to.

I have used the same font for everything on the text. The reason for this is because I think that this will make it easier for the audience to read, and ensures that the text is clear. I have used a very simple font; the reason for this is because I wanted the font to conform to the dance genre of music, while still portraying some of the artist through the use of the font as well. I have kept the font similar to the font which I have used on the front cover of the album where I have “Phil And The” this is where I have used a dance related font, and where I have also used it here as well on the welcome page. The reason why I have used it here is because I think that it helps to keep the narrative going, and also keeps the digi-pack looking professional, and consistent throughout. I have chosen the font that I have as I believe that it is very sharp, simple, slick, and crisp which I think connote the clubbing swag and the way which people are expected to dress when they go clubbing. I think that this font really conforms to the conventions of dance through the use of this font this is also a font which I have seen be used a lot in other dance related elements such as on other digi-packs, and on the TV. This is why I thought it could be a good idea to use this font. As I think that this could then help to show that the artist is a dance artist and that the main content which is on the album is dance related music.

To help me make the font stand out a little bit more I chose to have a glow around the text. The reason for this is because I think that helps the text to read better, as well as helping the text stand out on the page. I also think that the use of the glow could also help to connote the club setting which is being created, the reason for this is because I think that there has been a bit of a strobe light affect here, thus helping to develop that club setting. Strobe lights are also something which are everywhere in a club and I think that the use of this makes it seem like these words are also all over the club and the artist wants these words which is he saying to fill a party, or club wherever the party may be. I have chosen to use the colour white, almost like an off white yellow because it worked best with the black which has been used for the font of the words. I really thought that this colour helped to lift the text off the page as well. I also think that the yellow could also be reflective of the sun as well, as if people go clubbing on an island then chances are by the time they get out of the club it is going to be sunrise, I also think that even if someone were to go parting locally, or clubbing, by the time they leave the club it is likely to be sunrise as well. I have chosen to use the colour black for the text on this back because it worked well with the glow, and I didn’t really want to bring in another colour which I had already chosen my colour scheme. I think that even though the background it black I think that the black font also worked well. I think that one of the connotations which the black writing has is that it helps to add the mystery of the album, as the colour black connotes mystery, and is related to the unknown. I think is evident here, as I think that the black writing helps to connote the idea of mystery as no one knows that’s on the album. I think that it could also show that each colour connotes all different things; this should help to create the club setting and help the album appeal to a lot of people.

Changes: I think that there is quite a bit which I would change about the welcome message page. Some of which being, I would make the background much more graphical, I think that I would consider having something either around the text or behind the text. I think that the change that I would have the welcome message so that each line of the message was in a strobe light, similar to the front cover but instead of the line going vertical they would go horizontal instead and I could have thinner strobes for each line of the message. I would also have it so that the lines are not completely parallel, so that they are slightly bent. I think that this could help convey the dance genre more.
I think that I would also try and incorporate the ‘Save The World’ logo in there somewhere. I wouldn’t make it massive, but just large enough to catch the attention of the person looking at the album, I think that this could make the background look a little more graphical, and get the saving the world message alone better.

Improvements: I changed this side of the digi-pack as well in a way this side is quite similar to the original side of the digi-pack which I designed. I kept the circle theme the same as I have on the first design, but I have changed the actual design of the circle, so instead of having the circles of colours as the background this background has more of a swirl effect to it. This is similar to the effect which I have used on the front cover but here there is used of a lot more colour. I think that this is good as it helps to conform to the conventions of the dance genre. As there is a lot of bright colours and general brightness at parties. For example the strobe lights, and the way which people are dressed at parties and so on they tend to be quite bright. That is why I decided to have a whole mix up of colours.

I also thought that through the use of colours it could be a way of showing that this welcome message is thanking a lot of people who helped in producing the album. I think that this can also illustrate that this album appeals to a lot of people and conveying that there’s music on the album to suit a lot of people as a lot of different types of people listen to dance music. For example it won’t just be people who like dance music who will go to the clubbing islands there will be a whole range of different people who are all different ages and personalities, and I think that by using this range of colour is a way of showing this.

I have also edited the font a little bit, I have changed the font ever so slightly this was just to make it a little more readable against the background otherwise I would have kept it the same. I added a bit of an emboss effect on the text. the reason for this is because I think that this is a good way of conveying quality, so I think that this conveys that this album has some quality songs on it.

The third side- the graphics

I have used a whole range of different colours for the third page of the digi-pack. This is because I wanted to keep within the theme of dance and make sure that I had used the same colours. This is to keep the digi-pack looking consistent and professional as well as allowing me to keep the narrative going.

I used the colours; red, black, and blue. The reason why I have chosen to use these colours is because they are dance related colours. They are also the colours which I have used on every other side of the digi-pack therefore I felt like it would make sense to use them on this page as well.
The reason why I chose to use the colour black is because I think that it is a very bold colours and one which conforms to the conventions of dance. I also think that this is a very mysterious colour which helps to create and develop an unknown space where anything can be created and it’s up to imagination to make the setting what they want it to be. I think that can be linked in with the idea of people going out and making the night what they want it to be, and making the most of it. I think that this can help the album appeal to a whole range of different people and able people to make their night out what they want it to be. I also think that the way that the black colour is used it makes the setting look a little bit like out of space. I think that this is good in terms of linking this idea back to the type of music which is on the album and almost implying that this is the type of music which is out of this world, that’s how good it is. This could be in terms of just dance music or music as a whole. This conveys to the audience that this could be the best music which the artist had brought out yet.

I have also used the colour red the reason why I have chosen to use this colour is because I think that it is a bold colour just like I used the colour black. The reason why I chose to use the colour red is because I think that it is a very energetic colour, very bold, and strong. There are often quite a lot of emotions which come to live at a party some of which being lust, love, happiness, anger. As well as these emotions there is also the connotation of danger and alertness. That is the main reason why I chose to use the colour red and the way in which I have used it is to make it look like the energy of a party as well as when people party they tend to get quite hot and it think that is a good way to display that people are present. As well as this when some people get hot they can sometimes get a red face or if someone were to blush or get angry then again the chances are that their faces would go red. I think that this also helps to signify people. Red is a bold colour and that is why I have chosen them to connote as people that go clubbing.

I have also used the colour navy blue the reason why have chosen to use this colour is because this is a dance related colour. This is also a colour which I have used throughout the digi-pack and therefore think that it could be a good idea to use it on this page as well. I think that this colour also conforms to the conventions of dance. I think that this is because this is a colour which is often used in night clubs for strobe lights. I also found that this is a colour which works well with the colours red and black as well as contributing to making a very nice purple colour. Thus conveying the coming together of people. I think that the colour blue also helps to match the colour of the sky, as well as the colour of the sea I think that this helps to connote the time of which people usually go out partying and go clubbing.

These are the colours which I used on the third side of the digi-pack. I have used these colours to keep the digi-pack looking consistent and to conform to the dance genre of music. I found that these colours made a really nice purple colour which helps to connote a warm feeling and illustrate the coming together of all different colours.

I have also used a few graphics on this page as well I didn’t really use a lot but the one graphics which I did use I think is quite effective. I used the sticker which I produced for the music video which I created, which is the same name of the album. This is why I thought that it might be a good idea to use the sticker to try and portray the message of the title more.

I have made the sticker look like it is travelling, and moving really fast. I have done to almost make it look like it is moving and doing something like a verb. The reason for this is because I think that this could help me to bring my digi-pack to life more and make it stand out off the page of the digi-pack. I have done this to try and capture that whole idea of a superhero and how they are spouse to be out of this world and come from out of nowhere to help people. The reason why I have done this to bring that idea into a more literal form, so that its like this album is out of this world, that’s how good it is. It is almost like a way of proving to people who have brought this album that it is a good buy. I think that this then just further high lights just how much of a good album that this really is.

Around the save the world sticker there is like an orbit. I have done this to suggest that the ‘Save The World’ sticker has made such as impact on everything, that it has formed its own orbit, and have had a ripped effect every time it moves. I think that this could then be linked back in with the idea of this album making such an impact on the music and the dance industry and that this album is also rippling across the whole of the music industry effecting the way which people listen to music and effecting the way other artist start to produce their music and the decision which they making in relation to how they produce their music and how they want their music to sound.

There has been very minimal use of font used on the third side as the only piece of font which is being used it the save the world logo. I have made this look like it is travelling through space, and like it is quite literally on its way to saving the world, and a picture has been taken of it in the process. I made duplicated of the layers of the text to do this I placed them all behind the original piece of text and then used the wind tool repetitively until I was happy with how much of the wind effect had been created. I then angled the font so that it was at an angle almost side on, the reason for this was so that the text actually looked like it was travelling through space.

I used dance related colours to so this. This was to make it obvious that this is a dance related sticker. This is why I have chosen to use the colours red, blue, green, and orange because I found that these colours helped to link in with the idea of saving the world and also conformed to the dance conventions. I think that the colour red works nicely as it connotes so many different things. It is also clear that this is the colour which I have used throughout the logo. Red shows energy, as well as danger. So I think that this could show that the saving the world is referring to going to save people. But then the red could also connote that the place which needs saving is a dangerous place. I then used the colour green to connote the saving of the world, such as trees, and everything green and natural. This is a very conventional colour to use when connoting this as I think that this makes it more obvious to the audience that the world ‘world’ is referring to the world and the people who are living in it. While I think that the colour blue could also just make it more obvious that this is for a dance theme music video as it is a conventional colour which is often used in clubs for strobe lighting.

Changes: I think that changes need to be made to this side of the digi-pack. I think that much more needs to be added to this to make it look better. I do think that it looks okay like this but I think that there is room for much more improvement here. One of the main aims which I would have for this side of the digi-pack would be to relate it back to dance a lot more, because although the colours which I have used are dance related colours I think that’s the only relation to dance which this side has. Therefore I think that this is a side which may need redesigning all together. I think that I could put a silhouette a the dancing woman and then put a repetition of ‘Save The World’ inside the women as I think that this way I could link both the saving of the world in with the dance genre of music. I would use the same colours which I have used for the background now, but I would have a completely black ground with maybe have a lens flair either at the bottom or the top of the side and then have a massive silhouette of the woman so that she fill the whole page (well most of the middle) and then have the blue and the red affect on the body. I would make this quite transparent; then on top of this I would then have repetition of the ‘Save The World’ logo in all different sizes, all over the body of the woman again these would have to be a little transparent as well in order to see some of the background which is behind it.

Improvements: I have kept the third side of the graphics quite similar I only made a few changes to this side of the digi-pack. For example I kept the background the same as the first digi-pack, and I kept the initial ‘Save The World’ logo in the same place.

One of the changes which I did make was to add more lens flairs to the side. I thought that this helped to fill some of the space which was around the logo in the middle, and I thought this the logo would look more out of space if I added a few more effects to the background to help create this affect. Thus convey that this music is just out of this world amazing. This is not the only change which I made to the third side of the digi-pack I also intensified the wind effect which I had already started to use on the logo. I made more copies of the logo sticker and then made then more transparent and moved them so that they were behind. I had done this to give a more intense effect of the logo moving and making it look like it is moving faster. I think that this helps to convey that there is fast music on the album. As well as conveying that this music is moving fast through the industry.

The fourth side- the front cover

This is the fourth side of my digi-pack. I have used the same colour scheme which I had used throughout the whole digi-pack; this was to help me keep the narrative going. I kept the background black to conform to the rest of my digi-pack and conform to the conventions of dance. I found that using black this time helped me to convey the night, mystery, and help to also illustrate the mindset of the woman who is on this side of the digi-pack. I that that black is such a bold colour and through the use of it there can be a lot of connotations one of the main ones being the unknown, just like it is usually quite dark in clubs and it is hard to see people. I think that links in with the idea of the unknown really well as people who are out partying don’t know what the night holds for them only that they want to have a good time. I think that this could show that every time someone listens to this album or one of the songs that they will be able to feel something different and they are unknown to the content which will be on the album.
I also used a whole range of different colours on the background. I drew the lines and then made them very transparent so that they almost blend into the background a little bit. I found that to be very effective as I think that it helped to capture the idea of sunrays, and that party life. I have used the colours; blue, red, green, yellow, and orange all in that order. I wanted to use the orange and yellow colours near the front to really catch that idea of the sunrays and catch the party colours. I also think that through the use of these colours I am able to catch that cross over from night to day. I have done this through the use of the black background and then the sunrays which convey the cross over from the two different times of the days illustrating all the different time which people can party and further high light the time of which they party as well. The reason why I chose to use a whole range of different colours in the sunray is because I think that this is an easy way of conveying all of the different colours, personalities, and the way people dress, and the different colour drinks which can be had at a party and so on. I think that this is an easy way of making it look really expressive and stand out. I have also tried to make this look like strobe lighting as well, the reason for this is because this is something which is often seen a lot in clubs. This is why I want wanted to play on this concept to help make the third side of the digi-pack stand out a little bit more and make it look for appeal to the eye.

Two main colours which I have used for the colour of the woman who is dancing around on this side of the digi-pack. I have used the colours pink and blue. The reason why I have used these colours in because I think that they stand out and I think that they really connote the idea of fun, and what’s going on in the mind of the people who are partying. I find that the use of the colour blue really helps to connote the idea of dance and capture that midnight feeling inside of a club where everyone is partying. I also thought that blue was a good colour to use as people usually go clubbing at night when it’s evening. I also think that people tend to wear quite dark coloured clothing at night as well therefore that could be good to have to show that this girl is also wearing dark clothing. But I think that the main connotations which are used here would be that these are a lot of the colours which are used which conform to the conventions of dance. So I think it is like this woman has been consumed by dance, and now the dance is in her and is a part of her. I think that it is also like she is lost in the music because it is so good, and she is enjoying herself that much. That is why I have used these colours to try and show this. I also used the colour pink as well, it’s not a very bright pink, and there is more than one shade used but I think that this is good as it again helps to connote that this woman has been consumed by dance and what is around her, and that she is in her element enjoying herself. I think that this shade of pink is also conventional to the dance conventions as a lot of bright bold colours are conventional colours of dance. I think that this shade of pink is works well with the mid night blue colour which is also used with it. I think that this pink also helps to connote body heat as well. Illustrating the body heat of woman, thus conveying how much she had been dancing. I think that this also helps to conform to the design on the front cover where I spoke about red connoting the energy of the people I think that this graphics is almost like seeing a close up of the energy of the people. I think that this could help the audience understand the type of the music on the album and how good it is.

I have got a range of different graphics in this side of the digi-pack. These are the sunrays behind the artists, the ‘Save The World’ logo, and the women who are in the foreground. I have used these to make the inside of the digi-pack look more graphical and look more appeal to the eye so that people like looking at the cover I would also like the audience to understand the graphics. For example the use of the ‘Save The World’ logo. I have used it almost like a trade mark, just like it has been used on the in the music video where there is the ‘Save The World’ sticker placed everywhere throughout the music video to try and get across the fact that the world is trying to be saved. The sticker is there to make it more obvious to people the point of the video is to save the world. I have then got the strobe lights as well as the black background this is to try and convey the time of which people party as well as conveying that this is the type of music which can be listened to all the time, no matter what time of the day. I have then got the women who are dancing. I have used this woman because she is on the front cover of the digi-pack. I have used a woman because it ink that they attract a certain audience, which I men, due to the use of minimal clothing which they are wearing and the way that they are posing. from the research I done I found that a lot of dance related aspects like CD’s and the TV often use provocative women a lot in dance related music videos. I think that this is done to show that they are having a good time, and to attract other people, as these sort of images of women are often used on the front of posters like the ones for clubs they usually have women on the front as this shows what a good time people can have as well as conveying the type of people that other people could meet if they go to that club.

There isn’t really that much text used on this side of the digi-pack other than the ‘Save The World’ logo this is there to act as like a trade mark. One way I have done this to portray this idea is through the way I have positioned the logo as I have placed it at an angle, so that it looks like someone has just stuck it there in a rush and hasn’t had time to change, and because it is a sticker once it has been stuck down it is quite hard to then move it once stuck. The text which the text is in a very dance related theme I have done this through the use of colours and through the design of the text. I think that bright colours help to convey the fact that this is for a dance album.

Changes: I do really like the graphics which I have used on this side of the digi-pack. But I would also make a few tweaks to this side as well as I think that improvements could still be made. I once I had finished designing this side of the digi-pack I saw a problem which I found quite annoying. This was that this side of the digi-pack matches up with side 5 of the digi-pack and that the two women don’t match up when the digi-pack is closed; therefore I didn’t think that it looked as good. this is one of the first changes which I would make to this side. I would have to make sure that all of the sides are going in opposite directions to each other. I would also have to check this on side 5 as well as this is important so that the finish is better and it doesn’t look like it has gone wrong. I also think that this also looks like the woman is dancing more and so that it looks like there is no break between the women dancing. I think that this could make my narrative a lot stronger, and professionally look a lot better.

The other change which I would make would be to the actual figures themselves. I would make every other model a lot more transparent. My reasoning for this is because I think that this could help the side to look a lot less crowded and show off the woman dancing a lot more. Also on the women who I would have made more transparent, I would also make them a lot smaller as well my reason for this is because I think that this will again help to make the dancing stand out a lot more, and make this side look better.

Improvements: The improvements which I made to this side of the digi-pack are quite different to the 4 side which I had designed for the first design for the digi-pack. One of the main changes which I have made has to be to the amount of women which I have used on this side, as I have reduced the number to just one. The reason why I have done this is to show that this dance is lost in the music and the song which she is listening to. This will then be a song from the album which he is listening to.

I have also made the woman look like a silhouette. The reason u have done this is to try and put more emphasis on the colours which are behind her, as well as conveying that this woman can be anyone, further illustrating that the music on this album can appeal to anyone. As well as reaching out to a broad audience.

I have used the red and the blue colours for the background the reason why I have chosen to use these colours is because I think that these are the two main dance related colours, and I thought that they worked well with everything else which was on the page as well as will the silhouette which I on top of the background. I have also kept the ‘Save The World’ logo as well.

I have also made the woman a lot bigger as well this is so that she then stands out more the shape and the movement of what she is doing it is much faster.

The fifth side- the graphics

For this side of the digi-pack I made it quite similar to the fourth side of the digi-pack this is because once the digi-pack is all made up the crossover of the graphics could look like one whole image and really looks like a narrative and looks like a girl who is dancing across the whole of the digi-pack expressing to the audience how good the music is that this woman I dancing across the digi-pack because the music is so good that this woman has to dance. I also think that this just makes it more obvious that this is an album for dance music.

The only differences which I have made to this side of the digi-pack are that I have added an extra girl, as well as changing the position that she is in. I have also added in a lens flare the reason for this is that I think that it really adds to that whole idea of the sun and it beaming through. I also think that it connotes the flashing lights and the strobe lights which are at parties, thus conveying that these parties go on into the night. I also think that it brightens up the image more and makes it look more interesting. I think that this image also shows that this woman is willing to keep dancing whatever time of the day that it is and who ever may be around. These are the main changes which I made to this image otherwise I kept the rest of it mostly the same this was because I want this to look like one strip of dancing, so like the woman has been dancing all day and all night.

Changes: The changes which I would make to this side of the digi-pack are very similar to the changes which I would make to the 4 side of the digi-pack. This is because the two sides are near enough identical, as they are so similar the only difference is that one has one extra woman and a lens flair.

The changes which I would make would be to change the order of the women, and then make every other woman more transparent, and smaller. Other than this there are no other changes that I would need to make to this.

Improvements: I made quite a few changes to this side of the digi-pack this was to make it similar to the other side which I changes which was the fourth side of the digi-pack I wanted the two sides to be similar, but there to still be a few changes. The changes which I did make was to the background, I kept the background the same colour as all of the other side’s which was like a very navy dark blue I then used the red beam as the biggest colour white is behind, I then put an electric blue on top of that as well but that beam was not as big. I used these colours because they are dance related colours and colours which I used on the other side of the digi-pack. I then kept the black silhouette the same of the same woman which is on the other side of the digi-pack I kept her in the same place as the other woman on the other side.
One of the other changes which I also made was to the logo; I made it smaller and moved it to the lower part of the side of the digi-pack on the right hand side of the cover. I also added a lens flair to this design as well I put this behind the woman but in front of the colours on the background. I have done this to make it look like sunset, as I think that this is a good way of showing that the sun is going in and this woman is still partying that is how good the music is on the album.

The sixth side- the back cover
For the back of my digi-pack I used quite a few colours. This is because there was quite a few graphics on the back cover and it’s the front and the back cover which people are going to see the most so I thought that it could probably be important to make sure that both of these sides appealed to the eyes. In order to keep the colour scheme the same I kept the background black as I thought that this would be a good idea so that is someone were to open up the digi-pack then the front and the back would match.
I used the colour black because this colour is because this is a conventional colour of dance, this is also one of the colours which I have used throughout the whole of the digi-pack. One other reason why I decided to use this colour is because I find that this colour conforms to the rest of the colours which I have used throughout my digi-pack. I find that the colour black connotes mystery, the unknown and allows the imagination to create whatever they would like. that is one of the reasons why I decided to use the colour black because I think that this would then allow the audience who are looking at the digi-pack to relate back to a time where they have experienced a good party. That is also why I have just put one woman on front and no woman at the back because a woman like that is often to likely to be at any party. Then the back background allows audience to relate back to a time why they have had fun.

Another colour which I used on the back of my digi-pack is red. The reason why I chosen to use this colour is because this is a colour which I have used throughout my whole digi-pack therefore I think that this is a colour which I can use throughout the digi-pack which I can set a theme throughout as this helps me to portray my narrative which can help my audience to understand. I think that the colour red has a whole range of different connotations, some of which being; lust, love, hate, danger, anger, and alertness. Some of the other connotations are heat, which could then be linked in with body heat which people generate. Therefore I thought that it could be a good reason to use this colour on the back of the digi-pack as well as the front as think that this helps to connote that this energy runs throughout the whole of the digi-pack, showing how good, lively, and how much people could like listening to this music. Thus conveying how the whole digi-pack is filled with this energy.

The last main colour which I used on back of the digi-pack is the colour blue. The reason why I chose to use this colour is because again just like the other colours which I have used like red, and black. Blue is another colour which I have used throughout my digi-pack. I find that this colour helps to connote the time of the day which people go out, when they go clubbing for example. I think that this colour also helps to connote the sea where people go to the clubbing and party islands; this is a similar colour to the sea which is there. This colour also connotes the colour of the sky as well. As by the time most people get out of a club or a party wherever they may be coming from it is usually quite late, or early in the morning by the time get out of the party which they have gone to. So I think that this colour is a good colour to use in terms of representing the time and the setting which people go out clubbing. That is another reason why I have used this colour on the back of my digi-pack because I think that this is a good way of showing the end of the party, as the back can be linked in which the end, so it’s like the end of the party is at the back and that is around the time which people leave to go home. That is why I think that is good to use on the back cover of the digi-pack.

I think that the use of these colours help the background look like a round circle. I think that this can then be linked to the idea of a sunset. I think that this is something which can be linked in partying a lot, as most parties finish in the early hours of the morning. This is a graphical way of connecting the imagery of the sun in with the dance colour which is used throughout the digi-pack. I also think that the blend of colours also helps this to look like a sunset.

I have not used that many graphics on the back of the digi-pack. This is because I wanted the back to look simple but effective in terms of the layout and I didn’t want it to look to crowd and over powered. This was because I had already used a whole range of different colours, and the choice of graphic which I did use I found to be quite significant. Therefore I didn’t think that it needed anymore on it.

The graphic which is did use was the ‘Save The World’ logo, which I have incorporated throughout the whole of the album. The biggest image of this is on the back cover. This is because when someone goes to pick up a digi-pack they are most likely to pick up the digi-pack and then look at the front cover maybe look at the graphics and read the name of the artist and the name of the album. They are then likely to turn the digi-pack over to see the back cover this is where they will see the name of the album, which is also the name of one of the songs on the album as well as being the sticker which is in the video of the song. I think that this really tries to get the message across of saving the world and that this isn’t just a typical dance album and that saving the world is the albums unique selling point. I think that this could then make the album stand out from other dance albums, and could encourage people to want to buy the album.

The other graphics which I have put on the back is the Ministry of sound logo the reason why I have chosen to put that on the back is because it is just additional information which the user might want to know about the album, and it is not stuff that is usually put on the front cover. The conventional place to put this is on the back cover. This is also a way of telling the buyer the record label of the artist, and who produced their music. I think that this is also a way of the record label being able to promote them in a way, so that the buyer might like the label and might find other artists who are also a part of the same record label. I have also chosen to keep this just out of the way this is so that it doesn’t take the attention away from the main graphic which is on the back. I chose to use the grey logo because I thought that this might sit better with the rest of the colour scheme and it was still noticeable to the audience as well, I think that by using the colour grey that it is almost like saying this is blending in with the background, but is still noticeable I think that this is still good in a way as it shows that this is the genre of music which the Ministry of sound produces. I have also made it quite small this is so that this logo is not competing with the main graphics which is the sticker which is in the middle.

I have only got one font on the back cover of this album. This is because the only thing which I have on the back of the album is the name of all the songs which are on the album. I have uses the same font for every song. This is to keep with the conventions of a dance relate digi-pack, and also to keep the back looking consistent. I have used the same font as I have used on the front of the digi-pack the reason for this is because I want everything to link in, match and look consistent and I think that this is one way of being able to do this.

I have got the font going all the way around the ‘Save The World’ logo. I have done this to just have a little fun with the graphics I also think that this helps to link in with the idea of saving the world. Because the world is round and all connects back together, and this is what is happening here. All of the songs connect back to each other and goes all the way around. I think that this helps to link in which the idea of music helping the world goes around. I also think that this has the impact of saving that this album will affect the world because it is so good.

The colour of the font is white this is so that it stands out again the coloured background. I think that this is good as it is like saying the change that music will make to the world will stand out a lot just like the track listing on the back of the digi-pack stands out as well. I also found that white was the colour which stood out the most as some other colours tended to blend in too much. I think that the colour white also helps to connote purity, innocence, and brightness. This then links in with the girl from the music video who also wears white to convey the same meanings. I also think that this could then show that the song lyrics which are going around the ‘Save The World’ logo have the same meaning that these word which are going around the world is good, and the change which these songs have on the music industry and the world will be good. I think that it is also like saving that they want the songs to reach all over the world, and become that well known, so that they can have an impact on the world.

There is also a green glow around the text the reason why I have chosen to use a light green is to help represent the world as the name of the album is saving the world. So the green helps to connote the nature and all of the natural things in the world like trees, and plants. The reason why I have used this is to try and convey the idea that these songs are spreading the nature and protecting thus conveying how good the songs are. I think that this is a good way of showing that these songs are good and by listening to them can be good for the world. Like these songs are so good that they have to be listened to. I have made the glow just thick enough so that all of the words are connected to convey this.

Changes: I think that this side of the digi-pack could really do with some improvements and some changes. Some of these would be; to add the information which needs to go on the back of a digi-pack. This is because without that information the digi-pack doesn’t look like a digi-pack, and wouldn’t look professional. Some of the additional information which would need to be added would be the barcode, the copyright, small print, and the record label which I have included here. I would also like to make the back look a little more graphical. I’m not sure what I could add to it. I think that I could add something to the background to maybe fill in the blank spaces. I think that I could maybe add either strobe lights or images or silhouettes of the woman in all different sizes, making them a whole range of sizes and transparency.

Improvements: I changed the back cover quite a bit, but one thing which I kept the same was the background I didn’t change this at all I just kept it so that there was the black and then the red and blue on top of that. The then made strobe lights from the corners which bounced off the walls, from one corner I had more than others so that it looked like that was where the lights were all coming from then off some of the strobes I have got the names of the songs.

I have kept the sticker as well. But I have moved it and changed it a little bit in terms of size and place. I moved it so that it was closer to the top and so that it was sitting on top of the lens flair which I had put on the background. I rotated the logo a little bit more; this is so that it looks like it has just been stuck on there. I have also made it smaller as well the reason why I have done this is so that people notice the names of the songs as well.

  1. This post demonstrates an excellent understanding of the choices and decisions that you made to your digipaks and you have considered the conventions of dance too.

You have also included your improvements and what you would like to change about your work, but you also need to include your digipak to support the points that you have made.
