FINALS- Advert And Digi-Pack

Analysing my final digi-pack and advert

This post will be discussing the decisions which I made to help design the final digi-pack as well as a justification about the final digi-pack which we decided to use. I will look at the use of colour and how the conform to the code and conventions of dance. I will also look at the choice of font amongst other design aspects. I will also be looking at which part of some of the design I used from my previous digi-packs and what I used from other members of my group to help produce the final version.

This is the final image of the digi-pack which was created for the group. This used a combination of both mine and the other members of my group. One of the ideas which have been used on this digi-pack which was taken from the design of my digi-pack is the use of the woman who is positioned on the left hand side of the digi-pack. The reason why we decided to use that was because it conforms to the dance genre conventions therefore we thought that this could be good to use as it could catch people’s attention and could encourage them to look at the digi-pack. Therefore we decided to keep it we also found that through the use of the woman on the front that it could also help to tell a narrative which is something which we continued to use on the advert as well; I thought that this could be effective.

Something else which was added was something which was similar to my initial design but also s little different as well. I had used the women on the inside of the digi-pack where the graphics sides were. For the final digi-pack I created something similar to this as women are still on both sides but a range of different effects had been used on each woman as well as this the woman is moving in the same direction. The reason why we chose to do this was because I think that this guides the user through the digi-pack more as well as being a little more appealing on the eye was well.

One aspect which was taken from another group member was the use of the font as we found that between the whole group that it was hard to find a font that looked good and conformed to the conventions of dance. But there was one member of our group who had actually found a really good font which we all found to be quite effective as well as conform to the conventions of the dance genre. Through the use of the sharp hard lines, I find that the use of typography can be key when conveying the genre of music. And the font which has been used here is good for that. As well found that this out of all of our fonts that this font illustrated dance the most. I found that the use of this font helped to convey the seriousness of the music that it is not a joke as well as portraying the style of which people are expected to be dressed as when they go out. As well as this I found that the use of the font married well with the use of the woman on the front as well as the other illustrations.

Something similar which was taken from another member of my group was the use of the colour back. We found that the use of the colour black looked really nice therefore we decided to use that. We also found that this was a colour which conformed to the conventions of dance. I think that this colour gives off the feeling of night thus providing a good setting for the nature of the music which is on the CD as it is the type of music which gets played at clubs of which people usually go to at night. Illustrating that this is music which gets played at night at clubs, and is the type of music which gets people dancing. I think that this could also convey the narrative as there is a woman on the front of the digi-pack this could show that she is at a club and that is why she dancing, illustrating how good the music is.

We also added a whole range of new aspects to the digi-pack as well; some of these are the use of the lighting effect which has been used on the front. We thought that this looked good as it helped to portray the dance genre and I think that fact that some of the colours mix also looks good as I think that this conveys the mix up of music which is on the album and illustrates that there is something to suit more than one persons taste as it’s not just people who listen to dance music who go clubbing a whole range of different people do. I also think that the range of different colours could also convey the dance genre and the spot lights which are in clubs. I think that this looks good as again it conforms to the dance genre and it tells people straight away that it is a dance album.
Something else which got added which is also related to the dance genre is the spot lights which is used on the back cover as these also conform to the conventions of dance. I think that as they look like spot lights that this is a little creative and could be something which is appealing to the eye. As the back cover is the second side of the digi-pack which most people are likely to look at therefore as a group we thought that it should be important that it looks good. This is why we chose to have spot lights as I think that this could then relate back to the front cover as well where there is a whole range of colours and spot lights. As there is such a dark background as well I found that this helped the text on the front of it to stand out even more. We thought that this is just something which could attract people to want to look at the digi-pack. I also think that the use of all different colours doesn’t just connote the dance genre and clubbing, but I think that it also conveys all the different types of music which is on the album. So there are the spot lights and that conveys the dance genre and then the different colours could convey some of the subgenres which are on the album, conveying how the album could appeal to more than one type of person.

If I was going to make any changes to this digi-pack then one of the things which I would change might be the background which I have used behind the back of the welcome message. Although I do think that it looks good the way that it is as sometimes it’s good to keep some of the sides a little more simpler as otherwise the digi-pack becomes a little at risk of looking over the top and a little over powering. This could then affect the effectiveness and spoil and almost dampen the quality of the rest of the digi-pack for example the graphics which have been used for the woman on some of the sides and the graphics on the back. Sometimes it good to have some but not loads as it can affect the quality but if I were to make any changes then I think that I could makes them to the side with the welcome message on it, and just edit the side a little more making it a little different. Probably still simple but just a little different, just to make it looks as good as the other sides but not over power the text.
This is the main changes which I got made to help create the final digi-pack to help it to conform to the conventions of dance as well as telling a narrative and illustrating information about my artist of my digi-pack.
Choice of the final advert
In terms of the final advert we wanted it to be very similar to the digi-pack as this could then be something that people will recognise if they had only seen the advert, or just seen the digi-pack when they were to see the other they are more likely to recognise what it is for as they would recognise the design.

We made the choices of the advert before any decisions were made about the digi-pack. We didn’t make many changes to the advert. As we decided to use the advert which I designed we didn’t really change that much of it. We decided to use the second design of my advert with the woman on the front and the women at the top as well.

One of the reasons why we chose to use this one was because the rest of the group liked the use of the colour scheme which I had used and we found that it conformed to the conventions of dance quite well. One of the main conventions of dance which we found was the use of the woman as we thought that she is a good representation of the dance genre as she is dancing and she looks like a typical girl which could be found in a dance music video. I think that this then looks good as it could then attract people to want to look at the poster. I also thought that this advert helps to convey the dance genre through the use of the colours which have been used as I thought that it’s not really pitch black so I didn’t really want the whole background to be plain black as there is always the use of low key lighting and strobe lights, spot lights and so on this is why I played around with the use of the lighting a little bit for this I just used a few lens flairs to create a tint on the black colour as I thought that this could accommodate the use of lighting which is often had in clubs. I think that this looks good, as I think that it helps to set a good background and scene. As I have tried to create an effect where the narrative runs through the digi-pack and the advert. We were inspired by the women at the top of the advert for the woman in the digi-pack as we wanted to create a similar theme which would relate to the audience. I think that the use of the woman at the top is eye catching which is good as it could get a lot of people looking at the advert which could then encourage them to want to buy the album. I think that the use of the woman is good as it creates a sense of movement and catches the woman in mid movement and convey to the audience what the woman looks like and how she feels to convey how she is lost in the music and by dance. Thus encouraging people to want to feel like that as well and listen to the same music, as I think that the woman on the front of the digi-pack is quite desirable and could encourage people to think that this is good music which people like the one on the front listen to. I also think that the use of the metallic-ness conveys the fact that this is dance music I think that it just further enhances it a little bit I also think that the use of the metallic-ness could also convey that this woman is lost and stuck like metal. But then the use of the little flecks of colour which is on top of that conveys the amount of life which is in the woman and how much she is enjoying the music.
If there was going to be any changes made then I think that it could be to the use of the font as I could like it to be bolder and stand out more. I would like some of the key words which are used on the advert to stand out a lot more for example the words ‘Save The World’ I think that this should be bolder then that is the same for the name of the artist as well as I think that this could attract more people to look at the advert.
These are the reasons why we decided to use the advert which we did. I have justified my reasoning and have discussed where I have made changes and certain aspects which I have kept the same and why. I have also explored and range of colours and graphics. This is the final digi-pack which we decided to use and why.
